When to do first waxing???

My last car was a Saab 9-3 and the owners manual said not to wax the car for a certain amount of time (I think it might have been six months). They said it had something to do with giving the paint enough time to properly cure.

I checked the TL manual last night, but didn't see any such reference. I think Saab's assertion makes sense, but I had never heard of anything like it until I read the Saab manual.

Do you have any information or opinions on this topic?

It is not necessary to wait to wax. The waiting time is a carryover from the days of enamel paint on cars that did take a while to dry thoroughly. Cars now are painted with laquer that dries very quickly. By the time you get it, it is completely "cured".

How old was your Saab?

Saab age

The 9-3 was a 2001. It was a metallic with a clear coat, so I thought it was kind of strange. Much in the way that Acura suggests not changing the oil until the TL tells you. At this rate, it'll be 10,000 miles until the first change (without oil filter!?). I find this amazing.

edmiller: SAAB uses water based paints which require several months to "cure". Acura uses a full metallic based paint.

Actually, you dont have to wait any time at all to WAX - Saab or Acura.

You might want to wait to POLISH though... because polishes use abrasives while waxes do not.

Thanks.
