When did you have to replace the exhaust???

My wives 04 TL is chunging along nicely(knock on wood) with 121,000 miles on it. I've kept up on all the maintenance and was just wondering if I should be planning on a new exhaust system anytime soon.

I was just wondering how many people are getting out of the factory exhaust systems?

This all depends on where you live, how harsh winters are, if they salt the roads...

Mileage doesnt really affect it. If it isnt leaking or rattling - I would leave it alone..

IMHO, this is one of those 'fix as it breaks' components of the car. It's not going to leave you stranded if something goes, no need to be proactive in this matter.

FWIW: Many replace parts of their exhaust, but seldom, if any, I've seen for anything less than performance.

In my opinion, I never see a car have to change the exhaust system ( I may be wrong ). I think people change the exhaust system for : sound, look and performance.

We were constantly replacing the exhaust in our old 89 Camry and it wasn't for sound, look or performance! That was the only thing that ever gave us trouble over the 220,000 mile life of that car. Probably replaced the muffler 6 times and several pipes were replaced at least once or twice.

Only reason I for see one changing the exhaust on a car is due to corrosion. Road salt screws shit up, also.

The TL has a stainless exhaust system stock... you shouldnt really have to ever change it unless you hit something, that of if a gasket blows out... then all you need is a gasket!

Ding ding ding. The exhaust is stainless steel, I believe the only non SS parts are the bolts, nuts, and hangers. The exhaust should last a very very long time, even in northern states.
