What's it worth and can I get it?
Hey guys, quick question. I have a white 07 TL type-S loaded with 42000 miles. I owe $22,750 and am trying to figure out if I can get out of it and break even. We have a child on the way that has turned my world upside down and with the costs of child care the car has to go. I have looked on auto trader withing 100 miles of my zip (44203 Ohio) and if I asked what I owed it seems to be one of the best deals on there. However I know there is a difference between what you ask and what you get. So, do you think $22,750 is possible? Thanks for the input!
Sorry to hear that you have to take such great measures because the baby is coming soon. We literally just had our baby on sunday (infact she is sleeping on me as I type this :-) Its the best thing to ever happen its amazing. Anyway, yes if your car is in great condition you can easily get that amount or more. I know everyones financial situation is their own business but it sounds like you are in a rush to get the car gone. Hopefully you figure things out and everything goes good. We are fortunate enough that I make enough money that my wife does not need to work and she will be a stay at home mom/wife. If at all possible try and consider this as an option if you guys are able. The amount of money you will spend towards child car and day care is going to be as much as some peoples income. With that said why work to have other people raise your baby? Just somethin to think about thats all.
Sorry I went off topic about this but since im already going through the baby thing I figured I would chime in. Like I said if your car is clean, unmolested, original condition you will be able to break even or even get $500+ dollars out of it.
Goodluck!

I really appreciate your input. It is our first child and im absolutely stoked but at the same time I need to be realistic. I already have a toy thats paid for (Roush Mustang) and getting rid of the TL would be one less strain. Trust me I wish the wife could stay home but her job gives us great medical insurance and after weighing her staying at home and us paying the insurance it simply wouldnt work. I called 4 dealerships today to consider trading it in on a cheaper commuter and my highest offer was $17,000 which is totally unacceptable. Im considering throwing it on Auto Trader and have it on craigslist now. Ohio is hard pressed to find folks with money so it may be a hard sale but i refuse to lose money on the car. Again, thanks for the input!

congrats on the baby on the way! sorry to hear that u have to get rid of the TL. But the price u are asking for IMO is too cheap. Around here in florida i have seen type s go for around 28k with 40,000 miles sell faster than they can put up pics on autotrader. i get people coming up to me all the time asking if i want to sell my car. i bought my for 25k back in 08 and they still go for the price now.
That way you'll have a 4door car that you can tote the family around in. Its a VERY safe car and you know the car's history vs. another eco-box that you'll buy. As well, you'll have one less car to insure and you won't be so worried about the mustang in the event you need to take it somewhere.
If you can find a good home for the mustang I'd say that you should sell that and stick with the TL. It makes so much more sense! Plus if you ever get bored with the TL, you'll still have something with a bit more equity as the TL's resale won't fall as much as a modded mustang since everyone and their mother has 99 versions of the mustang.
The mustang is a 1 of 13 made car and some day in the distant future will be worth a fortune. And on top of that my wife and I fell in love while taking drives in that car as well as drove away from our wedding ceremony in it. We have both agreed that the mustang will never be sold unless it is absolutely neccesary.
Believe me I understand your point however it just means way too much to us to sell and hopefully I can pass her down to my child when im gone. Not to mention it is just a blast to drive.
We are due in early October so if I could just break even I would be happy. If thats a great price and someone else is happy too then it is a win win for all involved. Again thanks for the feedback guys and gals.

Congrats on the new addition to the family.
I don't think you will have any problem selling it!! I think it's a steal for that price. If it were me I would start the asking price out at $25k so that you have a little room for negotiation.
Even at $25k it's still a really good price. I was looking on Auto Trader and TL's with similar mileage are going for $25-$28k.

congrats on the baby, i bought my tl because of my baby(born in feb but bought last oct). Like others have said you should have no problems getting what your owe or more. What are you guys looking to move on to? Hopefully you can get a quick sale, and make sure you find her a good owner
Congrats on the Baby! This is the main reason I traded in my TL, to start a family soon. I can totally appreciate the Roush! I've had 3 mustangs (87 GT Vert, 95 GT, 01 Cobra Vert) so far and torn between another Acura or Terminator....lol.
You can also post it on Ebay Classifieds and Cars.com for free. I traded in my 07 TL-S w/ just under 80K miles for my 07 M45 Sport for $18,500 (to include tax savings on a trade in). I sold most of my mods before I traded it in but still had about $2k in additional aftermarket parts which was my fighting argument during trade in. Like others have said, I would try to posting it here on Azine, check out the link below.....

That's funny because that's exactly why I bought mine! My previous car was too small and my wife was saying how it would be too small and such and I thought about the crash rating so I sold my old car and got the 5AT type-s as my "family car"
But I believe you can easily get 25k for it if you wait long enough. My baby was born October 3rd last year. That'd be pretty cool if it was on the same day haha.
Anyways, congrats and I wish your family the best of luck with everything. Hopefully the baby comes out healthy!

Take it to Carmax & you will have a pretty good idea what its worth in about a half hour....if you like the price you may be good to go right away.
They will generally give you more then a dealer will.

I just got finished putting her on auto trader, hopefully this will generate a buyer. Thanks again for all the well wishes and great advice!
CONGRATS! With regard to the TLS here's the problem, nobody has $23,000 in the bank let alone $5,000. Most want to finance a car so they can make monthly payments. So a dealer will offer you $17,000 or so & put it on their lot for $23,000, not a bad profit huh? My 07' TLS has 70,000 miles & the dealer offered $14,000 & it even has 1 carfax accident, I thought about taking it & buying a new SS camaro but then I'll be in the hole for about $22,000 & back to monthly payments for 5 years or so. I passed on it, my daughter going to college in 2 weeks & will need monthly $$ for expenses.

This changes the story completely! I say forget what I said and get rid of the TL-S. The memories attached to some objects outweigh the dollar value that can be placed on them and your mustang is one of them!
Try taking a few photos and putting up a for sale thread in the black market section. Once someone see's that you have a passion for cars and wouldn't abuse it, they'd be stupid to try to low-ball you.
