Autocross?
Autocross?
Do any members here autocross their type s? I intend to give mine a try at some point but am curious about anyone else's experience, both stock and with any suspension mods.
Member Micheal Benz took first place in points for the year in his base model 5at. He had a supercharger but that won't make a huge difference on the generally short auto-x tracks. Suspension mods were limited to a-spec and a Comptech rsb. I believe he upgraded to a Rotora BBK also which might not be needed on the Type-S.
These cars do surprisingly well on the road courses. Mine beat out my co-workers' STi, Cayman, and a new Camaro SS, all of which had significantly more hp.

Yes, cone racing (scca) and some NASA. The auto is a little tough to race but fun for auto cross. NASA you need better brakes and suspension to have safe fun. Auto x is a lot of fun, more so if you have mods.

Thanks Bearcat, are you still autocrossing? I have been doing autocross and road courses (time attack) in my Mustang locally for a few years now. I don't "plan" on using the TL-S for this, but I do want to give it a try in both just to see what it can do and get a better feel for handling at the limit. Plus, it's a FWD and on street tires (Conti DWS) as opposed to RWD with R-comps (V710) so will be quite different.
I got hooked on autox with my Type S. Then a year ago I talked the wife into getting a '91 Mustang convertible as a Sunday car. I race it Saturdays with the SCCA, PCA or BMWCCA. Then we cruise on Sundays. There's another Aziner here I see racing his Type S. He does pretty well, but IMO it's too big & heavy. Autox4u.com is a great site for local racing.

I've gone back once for the local SCCA AutoX. Plue one track day at CMP and 2 trips to the 1/4 mile (The Rock & Z-Max). So just a very little here and there to know the car better and have some fun.
But it's a daily driver and I can't afford to beat the crap out of tires, brakes, etc.
I've autocrossed my 07 TL-S 5AT a few times. It does fairly well but where I autox the guys who make the course drive miatas... My car was bone stock for the first few but I eventually put a Progress sway bar on the rear. Made a huge difference. The big thing with driving a FWD hard is that, IMO its best to lift a little and let the rear slide some. it is a heavy car and pushes some driving agressively but you can do pretty well in its class (which is typically bigger cars like it). You just have to get a feel for the way it drives. I typically autox a S2000 so going to this car was a big change for me just like going from a Mustang to the TL
