What's the top speed of the TL?

I just got back back from a 1000 mile trip from the Denver area to Utah and back. I was driving my wife's TL and was surprised at the stability. Rock solid in sweepers at 100+ and I saw 132MPH on the GPS for 5 miles. Very straight and unlimited visability. Averaged 74MPH and 30MPG for the trip. Much more impressed with the car than I thought I would be. Now if someone would fix the the auto-slam doors instead of telling me they are great I'd be really happy.

What's the top speed of a TL automatic?

Each door works well if you let the door catch one of its detents before putting a leg out.

Magazines peg TL's top speed at 152-155 mph, both auto and 6MT-- much slower than state troopers' radio broadcasts.

The doors are horid and the detents don't hold for jack. A marketing dweeb thought it would be cool to have them close at the "touch of a finger". Every car has some annoying point and this is the TL's.

You got that right about outrunning Motorola. Not a good idea but I had someone out in front of me.

I was at about 4000' and 95 degrees so the car would have been way down on power. I've got to think 155 is calculated or under very ideal conditions.

First off that's stupid. but I cant say much about myself...

Before buying the TL I saw a bunch of reviews and all seemed to point out the same flaw in the TL. it's handling.

IMO the TL isnt bad when it comes to handling, but its not very good.
when in the straights it's bliss. but as soon as I hit the backroads.. blah... nothing like understeer and body roll. bah.

My guess is some new springs, struts, and sway bars should do the trick. =)

It's a 3500lb car with a heavy nose. It's always going to plow in fast transitions. That's differant than high speed stability in a sweeper. I've got several high line cars that "handle" very well on a road course but aren't that stable.

Stupid. Probably. But the open road in Utah is a good place for the rare sin. I track cars enough that I've lost most of my zest for speeding on the street. It was fun though. ..

3500lbs is about the standard for a sports sedan. like I said it handles... not all that great.

If its a heavy nose then you agree it handles not that great thanks to the people at acura for making the car that way.

over all its still a nice car and I still bought it. but I do have to think twice about going into a turn as fast as I would in my other cars.

^Depends what your other cars are... IIRC, they put an Aspec TL against a 530i Sport and the TL owned. Its no Porsche, but it handles pretty damn well.

330I, A4, IS350, G35...

When you say the TL owned the 530i was that stock for stock? figured the TL would be rated with the 330.

I need to test drive the Aspec to see if well the handling is on that.

And you admit that you haven't read the manual???

It's about 600 miles for "break-in period" but engines are generally "green" and not at optimum tolerances for purposes of top-speed and acceleration runs until they have been run for about 3000 to 5000 miles.

Actually, you can romp on it, but not too much...
A good break-in requires driving at different rpms during the course of the break-in period. Thereafter, you can occasionally drive WOT for short periods, but best speed and ET for sustained WOT and quarter-mile runs (and shortest braking) will occur when the car parts are at optimum wear, which is likely after 3000 miles.
