whats that smell?

so this past weekend in pittsburgh we had some an awesome 70 degree day saturday..heres me thinking..wow..such a nice day..ill go for a drive.

i head outside and get in to my car, and BOOM..it smacks me in the face ...my car smelt like mold or something.

now, the two days before we recieved about 3 inches of rain, and back this summer, a uhaul truck took out the driver side of my car. well sure enough, i pop the trunk..and man..its soaked.

i pulled the spare out, tore the carpet lining completely out, and sucked about a gallon of water that was pooling in my trunk.

im freaking livid. my acura bodyshop that did the original work is closed till the new year, lunckily for me, the temps dropping and theres no rain in the forecast, save for some light snow. i threw the carpet lining away, it was basically ruined and it reaked so theres no way im sticking it back in my car. while doing the work i also noticed my rear tail light that was replaced is fogging, and the rear deck of my car was moist. so maybe the window seal is bad? the trunk didnt seam to be closing right, its a little tight on the driver side.

i doubt there will be any problem getting this repaired , im just worried that ill have to rent a car to drive while its in the shop because theyre gonna blame it on the accident and then make me go chase after the insurance company that paid for the work to begin with to pay to cover this and the rental.

yeah just thougtht id share that..it sucks having someone ruin your new car.

Are you sure the two clear tubes (one on each side) that drain the excess rainwater from the moonroof track are hooked up and working? They could be leading the water in to the trunk.

I've never had an accident (knock on wood), but my trunk always had alot of moisture and condensation in it as of lately too. Enough so that a book I had in there is SOAKED. A t-shirt froze itno a solid brick, and there is condensation all over the spare tire, the jack and all of the tools. It's not like I have a concentrated spot of leaking, the whole trunk is moist...anyone have any ideas? The car is only 4 months old, I plan on taking it back to the dealer to check out.

(Sorry to hi-jack your thread, I figured since we're on the subject of wet trunks).

Makes me just want to move back even faster. I'll be repping Pittsburgh Acura scene probably by summer 09.

Good Luck with your problem.

yeah i got hit when it was a month or so old, and go figure now, almost 6 months later..this happens. thats how i first found it. i kept putting things in my trunk and would take them out and theyd be wet, i thought maybe some snow fell in and melted, but its definately more serious.

since ive taken the carpeting and liner out and let it air out, the smell is gone thank god.

Close the trunk and have someone take a garden hose and spray water on the roof and trunk while you look through the rear seat pass-through with a flashlight to see if you can pinpoint where the water is coming in. That will at least point you in the right direction.
