What's the mileage on your 3G? Still going strong?

Yeah, my 2006 TL is my daily driver as well, that and I'm planning on keeping it my DD for at least another ten years.

Wow - that's crazy low mileage. Just curious if you have done the TB yet and/or when you think you might do it?

Ah...probably sooner than later. Just got a checkup a couple months back and still looks good. But being that it is 10 years now and it is a Las Vegas summer, I was already thinking about getting my mechanic to just go ahead and address it.

Well, I've had my TL for just under 2 years now. Got it with 77k and it's just over 87k now. I've done quite a bit of maintenance on it, but nothing unexpected given it's age. Still ticking strong and see's redline at least once a day. I just sold my beloved 370Z last Friday so the TL is my only car at the moment. On the prowl for a high hp, rwd/awd sedan to replace the Z so I can bring my daughter along on fun afternoon drives. Not sure if I'll keep the TL yet. I most likely will since she's in such great shape and makes the perfect DD.

The thing about a timing belt is they can "look good" right up to the very second before they fail. FWIW, the timing belt/water pump kit from my 2001 Honda Accord is the same as the one used in the J32 and J35 engines in the third gen TLs; funny thing though, my Honda calls for the timing belt to be replaced every 105,000 miles or 7-years, whichever comes first. The Acura has no such a time requirement, but pushing much beyond ten years would make me very-very nervous.

This has been a subject of much debate. There are many AZ members who have gone waaaay beyond the 105K mark and when replaced said the belt looked fine with no signs of wear at all. Also, don't know that I have seen many (any?) post their TB broke, but at the same time, I'm not advocating for not getting it done.
I suppose another explanation could be the timing belt spec itself may have been upgraded over the years but is backwards compatible with the old J30 engines; in that case the factory belt could well have been exhausted at seven years, but newer replacement belts may well be good for ten or more years.

Climbing into the way back machine we owned a 94 Accord and a 95 Accord wagon (both with the H22A) and we went over in time and mileage (can't remember what it was, but believe it was a lot less than 105K) with no issue. Truth be told, I was blissfully unaware of the maintenance requirement. The SA at our local dealership told me about it and had one done there an the other at an indy shop. Longevity of the belts or just luck.........

My 07 TL Type S just turned 100k last week and had to replace alternator (vehicle stalled), and today it's the water pump / TB (overheated but no coolant leak) Is this the normal mileage for these parts to be replaced?
#1418
There's really no set time frame for an alternator. TB/waterpump is a 105k service item but I'd be more concerned with why it's overheating.

113k miles in my 2007 CBP Acura TL type S. Funny thing is I've known this particular Acura since it was new, originally my mom bought the car to replace her Volvo. I actually learned how to drive in that car, and my mom sold me the car after I graduated college (she got a Acura TLX). Been the car's owner for three years now, and I swear the car still runs almost like it did on the day we got it.

I just hit 150K today - 2007 TL-S KBP - 6MT. I've done all the preventative maintenance, but outside the normal stuff (oil changes, timing belts, axles)
The cars are solid with proper maintenance (and fuel -91+), The leather sucks tho.

Just turned 266K miles, still original clutch, still only burns 1/2 qt between oil changes (7500 mile MID interval). Putting about 30K/year on it, running great!! Details in signature...

Keep Right Except to Pass
My 2004 TL (6MT) is at about 133,600 miles. Driving it a lot less lately because (a) we usually take the subway to work and (b) over Memorial Day weekend my wife got a 2015 TLX that is now our car of choice for longer trips, including the next time we go to Florida and a trip to St. Louis this fall. Of course I'm going to be more comfortable operating the TL's various features given that after 13 years everything is second-nature, and of course the automatic transmission in the TLX is hard for me to get used to since I've never owned a car with an automatic. With that said, I think the 3G TL's interior is still ideal in many ways. I like having physical buttons on the dash and the stereo because they're easier to operate in traffic without looking at them. I miss the in-dash CD/DVD-A changer when I drive the TLX. Using an iPod isn't a very good substitute, and setting up the "song by voice" feature takes too long (on Saturday, it simply wouldn't find Bruce Springsteen when I asked for his music—instead, it went to the Beatles). Twirling the knob to scroll through the long list of stuff on my iPod isn't happening. I understand from the 5G forum it just takes a long time for it to scan a full iPod, so maybe when we go on our next trip it'll finally get it done.
I still love driving the TL and I love the really nice cold AC. Our other two cars, aside from the TL and TLX, are a 2003 RSX and a 1988 RX-7 convertible (it got a new convertible top last month). Both fun cars, both of a totally different class than the TL and TLX.
Later this summer my TL is going to need brake pads (it almost failed state inspection over this), and the stupid door handle extension cap on the front passenger door went missing a couple of weeks ago—I didn't realize it was gone until my wife noticed it the next morning. Those things piss me off big-time because they're such an idiotic design. This is the third one that's fallen off. The part is around $20, but installing it correctly requires removing the door panel. Trivial repair becomes annoying expense. I'll get it done when I get the brakes done, of course, but it still bugs the crap out of me that such a minor thing is such a nuisance.

Something else I forgot to mention—I must say I love the SH-AWD in the TLX. Getting back into the TL afterwards, I find the steering feels "heavy," for lack of a better word, for the first few miles.

My wife has a 2.5 liter 2016 Mazda3 s GT 6MT with all of the bells and whistles, however, everything is integrated so if you're looking at the NAV, you cannot see what radio station or see any of the music on your phone unless you switch to the audio screen, then of course if you want to see your trip computer, it also takes the full friggin' screen, so whatever you had up, is replace with some useful information and a whole bunch which is all but worthless.
Since she has the newer car which gets (slightly) better fuel economy (albeit on Regular gasoline), she asked, "How come we always take your car when we're going somewhere?"
I figured the only safe answer is, "Sweetie, I feel more comfortable in the TL."

May have to try that, although I still have to go buy the part because I have no idea where it fell off. Any particular suggestion for where to apply the adhesive and for a particular type of adhesive to use?

Sort of the same but different...

I think some of the features that were missing on the 3G TL or that didn't exist yet (such as importing a smartphone's phonebook) are good additions, but I think the way the voice control was set up on the 3G was more straightforward and easy to use without having to think about what you're doing. To me that's the big thing—I want operating a car's features to be second-nature because I don't want to get confused or frustrated when I'm on the highway going 70 mph. The TLX has a 545-page owner's manual and a separate 333-page navigation manual. That seems a bit excessive! I wound up putting copies of both on my iPad.

Your TLX sounds like it is better sorted from the electronic/accessories perspective than the Mazda3, but neither of us can live with a car which shifts for itself.

clear rtv silicone...a dab is enough and it's not permanent but it's enough to keep the clip from breaking and releasing, I'm certain.
There's a square tab...if you pull the door handle, you'll see where to insert a tiny screwdriver to release.
Put a dab on the inner portion of that and I'd be shocked if it ever fell off again.

'05 Base bought April 2015 for $5500 from an Acura tech. Car had 133K and fully serviced. TB and all the goods done already and even had the tranny replaced even though it didn't need it because the guy knew about their reliability and upgraded to a brand new 06 tranny. Plus he has the hook up to get it done obviously. All papers included.
Car just rolled over 160K and still ticking.
Things done to date:
Everything about the car is super smooth and I'm planning to keep it for a long while. My brother and I have an small competition going on with whose car will croak at how many miles first. The deciding factor would be when our wallets say the repairs outweigh the benefits of just buying another cash car. (We don't finance)
He owns an '05 G35 with 191K. Takes care of it religiously as well. Both great cars in my opinion but the TL has more style to me.
Feel free to say who will win!
