What's first: Wheels or Body Kit?

I am somewhat hooked by those great body kits, especially the one Ron makes. It's a lot of money and probably more cop-attractive (i.e. more attention from cops), but it would make the car look different and soooo nice. Well, my baby is just two month old, and I am thinking. What should I buy first - new summer wheels (and rims, of course) or Ron's body kit. The total price of each mod is somewhat close. And by the time I got such money it would be spring or early summer. The wheels seems to be a first choice, stock wheels and a body kit probably would look odd (or worse). So, what do you think?

Thanks guys. It seems I am on the right track.

Could you recommend a set of good wheels?
I looked at Ron's rims, and I like the Servo Metalic (probably 18'). And there is Yokohama AVS ES100 tires - 235/20WR18. They supposed to be good for the weight of Acura TL.

Any comments?

I'd wait until I could afford both, not just one or the other.

235/20 seems rly rly thin! That's seriously a rubberband. You might want to go with a higher profile depending the roads you drive. You might want to run a 235/40. That would keep your speedo close to stock too. But definitely get wheels first!

The servo wheels seem based off the RSX stock type and the inspyre seems to be based off the a-spec TL wheel design. Just food for thought. I just put on inspyre 18's (see my new pic thread) and they are awesome.

Save

save up as much funds as u can and just spend it one day on rims tires and kit. i did that, frigging thing cost me like 1500 for falken tires, ronjon you all know the price, and rims from ronjon. do the math like 6g's. its all worth it.

Cop yourself some rims first. It's more noticable than gettin the bodykit changed first. At least in my opinion it is. Especially if you get nice ones then everybody will ask "what kind and where'd you get'em". May not get as much reaction with a new body kit.

Wheels first if your going with ron jon's body kit. for me i like how the a-spec kit looks on ssm w/ the stock wheels.

Wheels first, since a car looks kinda funny with a kit and stock wheels... Eventually both tho, wink, wink.

id have to disagree. i would say get the kit first because honestly a stock car with a stock kit looks good. wheels without being lowered looks odd to me and winters almost here so id wait on that.

cheapest route... kit first definently

you have a brand new car, with great wheels and tires.. use them up, and when its time for new tires, just get the wheels then. the kit looks great and wheels are always changing, the kit will be there now and then. why not grab it now then? I would go kit first, then suspension and wheels when they are needed...

trust me on doing both though, u cant do one without the other. so just make sure your commited to get the wheels down the road.

Gotta admit it is a pretty good idea to use up, curb, and otherwise abuse your stock rims and tires and then get your nice wheels once those are well trashed.

Kit and drop required for new rims?

Forgive the ignorance here, but this thread begs the question for me:

I don't think I've seen any cars on here that have only the rim upgrades... everyone seems to lower the suspension and/or add a body kit. If I am considering new rims and tires... no bigger than 18"... would it pretty much be a given that I have to go for one or both of those changes? Would the car look ridiculous if I changed only the rims and tires?

Sorry if this has been addressed in another forum... I couldn't find anything that spoke to this directly. Thanks!

Have you checked out the TL Picture threads in the Photograph Gallery?

i'd get kits first...
when i look at cars with only the rims replaced, they are really out of place
kits first.. drop and wheel can come in either way

i dont think ive seen a rj kit on a car with stock wheels im not sure id want to i think it would look funny to have now aspec kit and stock isnt that bad since the aspec kit is subtle but the look you get with the ronjon kit practically demands wheels

edit im sure if you ask someone could photo chop up a pic

I have. I don't remember whose cars these belong to (different owners I think):

I think it depends on what kit you get. I have A-spec kit w/ stock wheels and currently stock springs (S-Techs in the garage) and I don't think it looks bad. As posted above, the stock wheels do not look bad with the RJ kit either. Its all up to the owner I think. However, if you pick up some rims, definitely get the drop at the same time, or relatively soon after. Larger aftermarket rims + stock height = 4x4 But in the end its not my money so do what you can afford

The first major thing (if you're not counting my front end project as "major") I'll be doing is getting rims, and without a drop. Everything else comes later. I know it'll look good. I think recognized1 also has rims only, without a drop.

IMO, rims and a drop should go hand in hand. Sure, rims make the car look a little better, but a rim and a drop make it about 10X better.
