I was told to be careful about getting "shiny" aka metallic tint on our TL's especially on the back window. The reason is that it will degrade the quality the satellite radio signal (XM), and/or the GPS signal.

How true is that? I am not 100% certain.

it wouldnt be possible for the tint to affect the XM considering its antenna is on the roof. as far as the navi being affected ive heard mixed reviews. i just got my TL tinted with Suntek Carbon Tint - which is non-metallized so that it does not affect cars equipped with navi.

I have an aftermarket navi in my car and metallic tint. Sometimes right after it starts up the navi will be a little bit off. but after a few minutes it corrects itself. not a big deal, at least not big enough to pay an extra 250 for ceramic tint.

Metallic tint could affect your navi, cell phone and radio signal. Then again, it might not. You make the call.

I went with 3M tint which is non-metallic and cost about $200 for 4 doors and the rear. You may also want to consider moleskin or felt to keep from scratching your new tint film. I suggest a search for more information.

There are numerous brands of window film available on the market. You have Llumar, Madico, Suntek, 3M, SolarGard, Formula One, Huper Optik to name a few. As to which one is the best, it all depends. Warranty, installation, reputation, workmanship and customer service are all factors one should consider. Every shop/installer will carry or favor a certain brand over another and not all brands are available around the country. There are different types of tint: dyed, metallic, and ceramic, as well as different shades. Check your local shops and ask how many TLs they have done, are they aware of the tint scratching problem, moleskin install, what kind of warranty - lifetime or x amount of years and what the warranty covers i.e. replacement if scratched, bubbled, peeling.

Couple tidbits of info, the Navi manual states you should use a non-metallic film to prevent interference with GPS signals. This has been debated numerous times. Some who have used metallized film have experienced degradation and others have not. Those who opted for creamic film have had no problems. F1 and HO are ceramic films and 3M has the CS series. The other problem is tint scratching attributed to the rubber wiper on the inside of the doors. Most of the dealers and Acura are aware of this. The temporary fix is to install moleskin (adhesive felt) to the rubber wiper located inside the door panel.

i have the 3m tint...its lifetime warranty, other than that, its ok i guess. ive seen other tl's that have a tint that looks a lot better from the inside (still looks like it curing, 7 months later). i got the darkest avaliable and love how that looks. i dont have navi so cant say anything about that but i dont think 3m is an issue with that. its inexpensive also
