What're you looking to replace the TL with?
I'm not looking to replace this car. Its the best all around car I've ever owned. Theres nothing else made today that interests me. If I had room for another car it would probably be a late 80s camaro, maybe an 80's 442, or a Buick Grand National.
I decided to go with a 02 Audi S8. 360 HP and quattro really make for a nice combination. The car loves to be pushed and pushed hard (anyone seen Ronin
I must agree with some of the earlier comments about Audi's and their reliability reputation. However, the S8 is really a third car for us (I also have a 99 F-150) so if it is periodically out of commission it is not a huge deal. So far, it has been very reliable and 8 months later I am very pleased with my choice.
Good luck with your decision!
As I write this, I like the Cadillac CTS-V a great deal.
The new 2011 Mustang with its larger, new engine fascinates me. Now the "standard" GT has gotten really serious. With 412 HP and nearly 400 lb/ft of torque, this car should be another Mustang winner. I would go there for this one.
I've always had a soft spot for Mustangs, I've owned several and you're bang on...the new '11 5.0 GT is going to be a sleeper hit, I think. And even for being a live rear axle set up, they handle incredibly well. I took an '10 GT with the Track Pack for a spin awhile ago and I was very impressed. I guess I'm still an old school V8/RWD guy at heart!
I toured the BMW factory this fall and they said even the diesel X6 could go 186mph I think so that could be an interesting SUV. On the other hand my dad had an 01 M3 and 97 M3. Both of those cars lasted (with oil changes not much else) for 180.000 miles before he traded them. Now he has a Shelby GT500 which is now cheaper than an M3 and just as much fun to drive.
You wouldn't be interested since I won't be getting a manual
. Besides, the Porsche is actually my second choice/fall back car. I figure the 2015 Mustang's specs will be out by then, so if it ends up being what it's rumored to be (smaller, lighter, IRS, DCT, same engine) AND looks good, I'll get the Porsche and wait for the Mustang. If they brick like Chevy is going to with the next gen Camaro (T6 instead of V8), I'll get the 2011 and snag a Cayman down the road.
I've always wanted an American V8, a convertible, and a Porsche (albeit a 911). However, I'm over the luxury thing, so the American V8 is at the top of the list.

i've always wanted a muscle car but im gonna wait on that, im just getting into the whole luxury car feel

my real wish is to purchase a 6.0 GTO as a project car
now that's a tire burning monster! imagine what $2-3K could do for a car like that
Good point...it's never been totalled. A lot of the damage repairs have involved repainting, new bumpers (front and rear) and replacement of tails. They don't sum the total damages when they do estimates based on the value of the car AFTER accidents, do they (aka the depreciated value due to accidents)?
Hm...
Hm...

i bet most ppl that own a vette have some kind of a luxury vehicle as well, they can get away with a crappy interior of the vette after they hop into their nice lexus
If you want a car that can handle the curves you'll get the m5
For the OP you could look at an e46 m3(good price and great fun/luxury combo), an e39 M5(400hp and good price + good reliability IIRC) the new Taurus SHO, or the new mustang GT (hell even the base v6 mustang has over 300hp now).

it's a sports car...! Still can't decide
the MSRP on the Z was 38 sticker, and then around 2k for navigation. Really hoping to see what Acura has in store...I just can't seem to walk away from what the brand offers in relatively the same price range
I got an ich for a benz, loving the luxury lately and I am only 22 years old. I am thinking next summer I am either staying in a TL and getting a summer car (350z most probably), or selling my TL and adding it to the summer car money and getting a E-Class. Loving the 05-06 E500.
My next car either be -

OR -

I love my TL to death but I've also been looking at maybe trading her in too. First i looked at the 07-08 type s but i couldn't justify myself spending the cash to upgrade from my current tl on a car so similar and it didn't really wow me like people say it would. I love the 2006 Lexus GS 430 that's #2 on my list i've also looked at the G35 but for some reason i don't like the interior all that much and also I've looked at the BMW 7 series 2004-2005 model years that is my favorite of the cars I've tested, all those bells and whistles. great ride and good power. But if i had to narrow it down to two cars it would be the Lexus gs430 or the BMW 7-Series. After all that said i might just keep my TL since i do love my car
On the way to AC yesterday, while on the Parkway we passed a 4GTL, and at first it almost scared me to death as I thought it was going backwards. They've got to be one of the ugliest cars on the road, but of course we've said that before.
If money wasn't an object I'd look at a used 2008 Cadillac CTS-V, which was the first year, I believe, for the 550 HP engine. A 2007 has 400HP and is very reasonable, maybe low $30's and around 10,000 miles, with higher miles they will drop into the $20's and if certified, they will come with a 6yr 100,000 mile warranty.
Having said that, everyone's taste is certainly different, so I'll presume that you'll be able to make a decision based on your likes or dislikes just by driving the vehicles that are appealing to you.

I agree. A CTS-V would be a nice upgrade to the TL. Plus it'll have more torque than the TL could ever dream of. A huge sleeper.
Even the newest 2010 Range Rovers scored a 5.0 out of 10 in terms of reliability from JD Power.

2009s are just as bad.

What makes you think the newer ones are more reliable than the older ones? That brand has consistently been at the bottom of reliability ratings.

Once my TL is paid off, I'll probably still keep it for a few years.
That being said I would consider an S4, then dump it for a Cayman as soon as the warranty expires (and the kids are out of the house).

i'm loving my car, and will have it for at least the next 3 years as the wifey starts and finishes CRNA school.
after that though......the 335i coupe makes me happy in all the right places. I only wish they hadn't screwed up the rear end of the 335i four-door, as I like having rear doors on my cars....

I know a guy that owns a repair shop for Range Rovers and told me NOT to buy one because they are crap and always break down....but he said he can always count on them paying his mortgage!
amazing how some of you are moving up in the world
good for you guys! haha
seems that everyone's going from the TL to something that's worth almost 70k (double the TL new). I was just thinking of getting a damn 370Z
...haha

I will have had my '04 manual TL for six years this coming July 17th and I have no thoughts of selling or trading it. The car still puts a smile on my face, entertains me, and I look forward to driving it. As long as those criteria continue to be met, I will most likely keep the car. Still like the OP, I do like to consider my options should the time come.
As I write this, I like the Cadillac CTS-V a great deal. However, I am now retired so I would not wish to have $700+ car payments and I don't want to dip into my investment reserves for a car. That leaves three others that impress me.
The G37 Sport is nice but can be on the expensive side when the desired options are in place. Still it does satisfy that craving for a sport sedan. It's only downside is the rather low torque numbers but it is only a 6-cylinder after all - but a really good one.
I wish Ford would finish the job with the Fusion. It is almost there with a super engine in its Sport version, but it needs more cubic inches and thus, more power and torque. And it really needs a manual transmission. I'm a little surprised they haven't taken those steps since they have a history of doing so.

As for the 3G TL, Acura had their moment in the sun with this car. Think about it for a moment. How many cars do you see that look really good from every angle? I mean every angle - going and coming. The 3G TL is one of those. Exterior, interior... the 3G was a winner in every sense. What it has done for many of us, I'm sure, is to raise the bar and along with that, our expectations in our next car. Is that bad? Not on your life.

I like the GTO's (looked at one in 04 before I bought my TL, but they wouldn't let me drive it so I said f it). But for me, they need some work to look good. Sure, they have the power and it's cheap/easy to get, but I have to have the looks, too. Prices aren't dropping much considering they're mid 00's Pontiacs...guess they're not as under the radar as one would hope.

LOL

They are very comfortable, the interior is awesome, it's roomy, and they haul ass. Any truck will last a long time if you take good care of it.
The TL has it's problems too. There are many here replacing sensors, pieces of door handles fall off, Suspension issues, dash issues, leather seat issues, ect.
It's just like any other vehicle.

So what, they gave the Jeep Grand Cherokee a 6 and mine lasted 225k and never once broke down. The new rovers have very few mechanical problems.
