what would you do??????

I think I'm getting the bike bug again. After selling my CBR a few years back, I'm really starting to miss the bike especially after almost buying one this past summer/fall but I reluctantly held back and suppressed the evil urge haha!

So, what would you do? Supercharge the TL or put a nice down payment for a new ducati 1098?? Unless you're a motorcyle rider, you probably wouldn't understand.

No man's toybox is complete without a motorcycle:

- SC is expensive HP that you'll use less than a bike.

- "I wanna go fast"... Nothing beats a sportbike for going fast.

- Acura TL is nice, but it's not a chick magnet... Bike's are.

- Bikes are alternative transportaton when you blow your TL up.

All good reasons.

If I bought a Ducati, it would be a Monster...
Ducati's are sweet, but MOODY. You'd be better with a CBR/GXR.

It's red and it's fast...... What more is their to understand? :-) :-)

Comes down to a want/need and overall personal justification for the expenditure. Why did you sell a few years back - would you come to the same again after purchasing this bike...? Just being the devils-advocate :-)

(I still owe you some camera pics - I'll be back in town tonight...)

I'd want one if I was young and single again

I'm looking to get a bike for summer commuting. Nothing on that scale. Whats the best I can do for around $3000? Just looking for the gas savings & ease of beach parking during summer months

nice kennedy!! I'm not at that harley stage yet, but I'm sure I'll get there sometime down the road! Funny you brought up the monster because this was the other bike I was looking at....

Both bikes really "speak" to me. Just not sure yet if I want to go naked or sport. They're both priced right around the 15k mark. I hear you on the "moody" about these italian machines. Definitely 1 of the things I liked about the Honda because that thing was solid. Only thing I changed out was a clutch plate within 27k miles because I was doing/attempting too many wheelies. I'm definitely not a stunt rider; more of the go fast, hit the long sweepers, drag the knee kind of guy but you get in those wheelie modes when you're riding with the fellas.

Yeah, as much as I like the comforts of riding in a car, they just get really boring sometimes and it's not like you have to spend 65k for a high end sports car when you can whoop ass on a 10k sport bike which always puts a smile to my face!
So yeah, why spend 4-5k on a supercharger when I can get all the perks from the bike......parking, gas (sometimes!), no traffic, and of course the chicks (not that I'm looking, but if I were...... )

Sold the bike because I was being the responsible father. Just had a kid and wasn't riding as much back then. Crazy thing is, the girlfriend/mom really didn't want me to sell it!

Lembowski, if you're looking for just a daily rider, it's really hard to beat a 600cc bike. You can find alot of practically brand new ones with low mileage for the 3k-5k price range. Honda's are the easiest to learn on because of the riding stance and are more forgiving for less experienced riders. Anything less than a 600cc just doesn't have enough oomph.

I'd get a scooter if I wouldn't look like a tool. So oomp doesn't really matter. Just something that can go highway speeds and be dependable.

haha! Yeah, some of those scooters actually go pretty fast - like 70+ but unless I was screwing around riding like a vespa or something, I probably wouldn't ride one.

If oomph isn't a big deal, you've got a pretty wide selection. You could go with a smaller cc engine on a sport bike like a katana for example. There's a bunch of naked bikes like the hawk. Or you could be like Mad Max and get yourself a 2 stroke KTM that you can ride off-road or street.

I would get the bike, its fun and fast, a little cheaper on gas (I get close to 30mpg on my R1..when I hammer on it) Plus chances are you couldnt get any TL to do 0-60 in 3 seconds

I had dirt bikes and street bikes for a long time.
Tucson is a really bad place for street bikes, all surface streets = high accident probability.
I felt safer lane-splitting in LA than I did just tooling around Tucson. So the street bike went.
I was working too much to use the dirt bike, so it finally went too.
Now a full-suspension mountian bike almost scratches the dirt bike urge, and I've pretty much given up on the street bike.
If I ever get another, it'll probably be a dual-sport.
Mike

Get the bike! When you get those speed cravings 4 wheels can never compete with 2! (I miss my old bike in college too! It's been 10 yrs.)

I would get the bike. Althought the L.A. streets are so dangerous.
About 13 years back I was hit on my bike on the 405 freeway through Long Beach. The car cut into my lane and bumped me off my bike. I took the road rash slide and the bike went up in flames. Unfortunately the car that hit me took off.
Even though I went through that experience, I still like the feeling of riding bikes. I just won't do it on the road anymore in L.A.
I can;t wait till my son gets old enough to ride. When that happens, I think Dad and son are going to have to get some dirt bikes to do some male bonding.

There you go Lembowski, doesn't look all that bad especially if you're getting 60 mpg!!!

SANDYNMIKE
I always wanted to get some sort of dirtbike. When I used to live in Indiana, me and the good ole boys used to take the ATV's and quadrunners out alot but I never got a chance to take a spin on a dirtbike. Those dual-sports are pretty damn nice!

MACAY
Good to hear your safe. Those repsol models are sweet. If there was any honda I'd get right now, it would definitely be the repsol model. I still can't believe these bikes have electronic steering dampers.......technology is crazy!

CHFIELDS
haha, man you sound just like my other 2 buddies! We had a small little posse, about 5 guys, and for some reason or another, we all sold our bikes within a 6 month timeframe. Now that bug is coming back! As soon as 1 guy folds in, the rest will follow. Damn these bikes. Damn them!

DAVENLEI
I'm up in the northern bay area and when I could, I'd make sure to try and ride the HOV lane as much as possible. Fortunately for us up here, these lanes pretty much extend the whole length of the freeways out here (i usually take the 880 or 680 for my main routes). Glad to hear your safe! Yeah, I think I'm gonna get a pair of dirt bikes for my daughter and I when she gets older. What age were you thinking for your son to be old enough?

JOEYASPEC
Yeah, all bikes really are sweet looking in their own way. I'm drawn to the ducs because these pieces of art really are inspiring and they're much easier on the pocket!!

I'm pretty much sure that the supercharger won't satisfy the craving like you guys are saying. Original plan was to keep the TL as the daily driver and save up some for a nice sports car.......like the new Nissan GT-R or new Supra but planning to buy a house soon so I need something that's gonna scratch the itch for at least another 5-6 years.

There's nothing like opening up on a clear road. The feeling is just pure rawness......man and machine. Simplicity at it's finest. Sometimes it's the need for speed and other times it's just to take a quick cruise to get away from the madness. I definitely think it's bike time.

my old bike...

I have a 04 RR.... like everyone said... there is no way you can get the same feeling from a car as you do from a bike.

GET THE BIKE.... and plus the 1098 is just pure sex on wheels!

Get the 1098!!!! That bike is just pure unadultrated rudeness. I agree with the above posters, there is nothing like riding a bike. I have a 2006 GSXR 1000 and I love it. It shouldn't be legal to make a bike this fast! I almost traded my gixxer for a 1970 Chevelle SS 454 but couldn't do it!

haha LOL. "pure unadultrated rudeness" - good line! Yeah, the more I think about it, even if I were driving in a super fast sports car, I still don't think it would compare.
It's not like I'm a speed freak either although I admit trying to break the sound barrier a few times given I was the only one on the road.

Funny you bring up muscle cars because I've always been a fan of the Chevelle's, Cobra-jet fastbacks, GTO's and the smaller Darts. I do like the Japanese bikes alot but just wanted to taste something different. I mean, when I look at this 1098, I am like "dayam!" It's art and very technically refined at the same time. Even if you're not into sportbikes, if this doesn't stir up at least 1 little ounce of excitement, then I dunno man, I just don't know....maybe you have burial plots picked out already.

Special-Ed,

I was thinking about taking him to try out a bike when he is about six years old. It depends on his abilities and maturity level. He is very sports oriented and has excellent hand/eye coordination already at three years old. Maybe we will try earlier if he matures more and shows interest.

I'm with most everyone else - get the bike. A Ducati sportbike is an amazing piece of machinery and there is a cult following of Ducati riders in any major city. Unfortunately, I sold my bike back in 2000 and I regret that decision every time I hear a sportbike exhaust note outside.

Go with the bike, my friend - and watch out for all those moron drivers on four wheels!
