Bottomline: A well driven Soltice GXP should make short work of your TL-S. A race between that and a 3G TL 6MT would be interesting though.

I read up on the Mallet cars in Car and Driver a few years ago...giant-killers, those are.
IMO Solstice will walk you, especially if it's got the 5 speed. Same power, but it's got a weight advantage, it's manual, and RWD. However, a good driver in a TL-S can definetely make it close. Is your mom's boyfriend a good driver?

I dont understand what advantage the turbo has vs NA if they're both making the same power. IIRC the TL-S and GXP are rated at 260 horsepower? From a dig you might get him because of the turbo lag, but his car is lighter and RWD so it'll be close...

Its not that they make the same power. Those are just peak HP numbers. Turbo'd engines usually make more power earlier in the powerband. So the 260HP comes much earlier in the powerband than the TL-S's 260HP. Same goes for torque. The GXP produces more torque earlier in the powerband due to the FI(Turbo).

VTEC...spell it. V...T...E...C. VTEC makes a difference for us Hondas/Acuras, yes. But just because we have it doesn't mean it's the 'end all be all.' Think of it this way, if we didn't have it (basically variable valve timing) our cars would have much less balls. Regardless, he should walk you unless he misses a gear..and still...should catch up. They are a good bit lighter, meaning better power to weight ratio, and the gearing is probably better if you are auto. If you are 6 speed it should be much closer, but I'd still put it on the Solstice.

I've raced both gxp(turbo) and non turbo with my 08 kbp types 5sAT. I smoked the non turbo all the way around, from dead stop to rolling starts, but the turbo got me from dead start. I raced the turbo one again at a 40mph roll and beat him.
