Lightbulb What Windshield Wipers to get?

Hi - I'm the proud owner of TL 2005 3.2L, V6. I live in Seattle and the fall has brought the rain along with it... I need to replace my windshield wipers and I've been looking online for replacements, however I'm unsure what size to get as they seem to range from 15" to 26".

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I have no clue.

Jens

The ones that are preferred here are the Bosch Icons and the PIAA blades that apply a coat of silicon everytime they are used. I have the Bosch Icons on my TL, installation took less than 2 minutes and they have lasted me for a while in the florida rain and salty air.

+1 for Icons...
- OE equipment on high end german
- Better, more even pressure across the windshield

Folks like the PIAA's... not sure why.

piaas are like because they give an everlasting rain-x effect.

I use carnuba car wax on the glass for rainx effect

Bosch ICONS- with a name like that....
even better than the long popular bosch micro edge
The left and right sides are different size- dont know for your year but the parts guy at any local store can help you. They make an A and B model blade, for cars with opposite direction wipers
They have an actual aerodynamic spoiler built in, to keep them planted on the glass- put it on upside down- probably doesnt work so well
We use both sides- type A

I like the Bosch magazine ad:
Only Grandma hugs tighter

The TL has, like many Hondas and Acuras, different length driver and passenger blades, with the D side being longer.

Auto parts stores will have books or computers showing varying size wiper blades for Icons, Micro-edges, PIAAs, Trico, etc. on the TL as well.

I personally just go to a Honda/Acura dealership to pick up the stock rubber inserts for $5 each so I don't have to change the entire blade (note: the metal strips attached to the existing inserts need to be transferred to the new inserts to hold them in the blades).

Get the ICONS and it has all the metal/plastic springy parts hidden inside the rubber blade,
all self contained- nothing exposed to freeze up.
The spring tension in OE arms wears out pretty fast
New inserts are not getting full effectiveness due to loss of spring tension in support arms- you need new blade arms now and then,
or just go for the good stuff at $18 a side and really see what you have been missing

Personally, I like the Valeo Ultimates from Tirerack.com. I have used them on both my previous '05 TL and my '07 TL-S, as well as my wife's Celica. They are great for having all season performance. They won't freeze up on you, whereas most of the others will. They don't break down in summer heat, either.

As they haven't been mentioned, take a look at the Silblades.
What other wiper comes with a 5 year warranty? The Silblades on our Grand Cherokee were removed from the older model when it was sold, and are now 7 years old and going strong as they still clear perfectly.

I like the PIAA silicone blades. The refills are sold seperately at Pep Boys and they fit right onto the stock blades.

Do the siliblades / latitude rain x / Valeo all apply a silicone coating to the windshield?

Only the PIAA's come with a silicone based wax to be applied to the windshield.

but...

a little rainx applied to the windshiled will make ANY wiper blade totally awesome.

Sorry to challenge your reply, but "because these wiper blades are made from nearly pure silicone and are teflon coated, "the SilBlades will leave a microscopic coating of silicone oils on the windshield" like commercial windshield treatments which aid water "beading".

Like I said, still going strong after 7 years here in Jersey through the hot summers and cold winters.

I'm liking the Bosch ICONS...haven't had to replace the blades on my 07 TL yet, but I've used the ICONS on the 97 CL and have been happy

I think we're saying the same thing. The silblades accomplish what a little rainx does for you.

That's OK with me... I've been down the Silblades road too. I'm a convert, mine didn't last longer than 7 months. It's just silicone, and it wears out like everything else.

Voigt, and a few others are converts as well.

Good luck.
