what oil are you guys using?

Im using 5w20 mobil 1 and a wix filter (pretty good) I think the mobil 1 tends to stay cleaner longer than conventional oils... what are you guys using and why

Castrol GTX regular... b/c there is absolutely no reason to waste money on a newer engine. The only reason to justify buying a more expensive synthetic like Mobil 1 is that it does last a longer than non-synth = less frequent oil changes.

People will argue that its better for the engine and such.. it doesnt make a bit of difference in performance.

just my

AmsOil 10w-30 w/ Bosch Oil Filter

my mechanic who i've trusted for years swears by the stuff. Been made a believer. Ran the stuff in my accord for quite some time at over 10K change intervals - still passing inspection w/o a problem. No power loss, mechanic says the engine's in great condition.

I use Havoline 5w-20 oil (fairly inexpensive and has a high moly level) and Purolator Pure One filter (probably one of the most effective filters on the market). Also I use a 5000 mile OCI and a 10,000 mile tire rotation interval.

An oil that "stays cleaner" longer than other oils isn't what you want. The engine is producing things that contaminate oil no matter what. Would you rather have these things picked up by the oil, or plating out as sludge and deposits in your engine? Oil that looks "dirty" isn't a bad thing and doesn't mean it needs to be changed.

I run the same combo as Mason1125, above. (The Motorcraft oil is a partial synthetic). It seems to again be available at Wal Mart.

- Castrol 5W-20 Full Syntec in the "colder months" and 5W-30 in the summer...

- Mobil-1 - 104 filter.

- 4500-5000 mile intervals / ~40% on the MID with my driving etc..

Mobil-1 5-20. After the warranty runs out I will put it on my "filter every 5k miles, oil every 20k miles" schedule. This will be the 4th car I've done this on. I got over 200k miles on the first three with no engine repair. Before you rag on me, I got the idea from Mobil consumer service. Expensive as hell, but I found 5 gal bottles at Wal-mart for about $21.

Yeah, and I know of people who claim they never change their oil and their engines survive, too.

But the newer engines run much "hotter" and are much "harder" on oil than older ones, so beware.

Btw, where are you getting 5-gallon contains of M1 for $21?

You know, that $21 price did sound impossibly low. I checked my receipt. It was $21.94.

Wow, you are very special, I have never seen walmart sell any kind of oil that came in a 5 gallon container, especially for $21

Guys, this 5 quart jug is for real. Just go to any Wal-Mart. They got 5 quart jugs of all Mobil1 weights except for 5W20. I just changed the oil in my car and went to Wal-Mart to buy the oil. 21.94 is the price for 5 quarts. Cant beat that price. And you can use the container to store old oil!

haha... i buy my oil from walmart in the 5qt jugs too. In fact, Walmart is the only place i've seen these in the Seattle area.

Castrol GTX, Mobil 1, Pennzoil, etc.. alot of the larger brands come in 5qt jugs there. cheaper

Mobil 1 5w20 and Mobil 1 Filter. I've heard in numerous places that the M1 Filter is damn good and might even be the same filter that Honda OEMs....
