What oil and filter are you using?

Disclaimer: This is NOT a debate which is the best oil/filter.

As the title says, I'm just wondering what oil and filter people are using in their cars.

I currently use Penzoil Platinum 5-30 with a P1 filter. From around April to October, I'll use Redline 5-30 with RP.

I'm being conservative and sticking with the car's maintenance computer for my OCIs.

Oh good grief. Another one. The mods just closed one of these last week.

OP, do a search. This and brake pads are the two most ask and answered questions on this forum. Hundreds of times....

there was also a thread that mr. heel toe started describing that a 0w can be used in the TL.
and most every one posted what they were using and the benefits of doing so.

Since this is not a debate I won't go into the reasons why.

Redline 5w-20 K&N filter. How long do you think I can run this? I've been using the recommended OCI but I'm curious how long it can be safely run.

The reason I didn't want to get into a debate on which oil is better was because when I did search, there were more than enough threads saying why one oil and/or filter was better. I didn't want another "I've been using xxx for 85k miles and have no issues at all." thread.

I'm just curious as to what people are using but feel free to add why you use what you use if you want.

NAPA's own brand of synthetic 5W-20 and their 1334 Gold filter.

Their oil is really Valvoline SynPower and their Gold filter is a WIX which seems to keep the oil cleaner longer than any of the other brands I've tried, and that includes Mobil1 and K&N. No need to spend $13-$14 for an oil filter.

^^^ Is this a good oil and filter to put in my 08 TL-s MT 33,500 miles? I have never heard of it before, but I see a lot of people in this forum are using it. (Im due for a change here in the next few weeks). Going to do the synchro-mesh tranny fluid change too.

Make sure you get the GM synchromesh fluid, the best money can buy. I don't have the part # but it's easy to find.

Probably the best. The oil has tons of ZDDP (anti wear), tons of moly (anti friction, anti wear), super high HTHS (wear) for each viscosity grade, it's an ester so it has an awesome natural cleaning power without a bunch of detergents, it will not shear during hard use so you can run a few track days on it without having to change it, it does not leave deposits in the ring land area which is one of the factors in lost performance and mpg at high mileage.

The filter has more flow AND better filtration than anything out there. I'm not a big fan of RP oils but their filter is top notch.

Redline 5w-20 and Mobil 1 EP filters. If I could find the Royal Purple filters locally I would use them, but nobody in my area stocks them.

If you're referring to the filter, I think the only retail store that carries it is Pep Boys. You can buy it online at Amazon.

Check advanced autoparts, although I bought mine from pep boys, advanced said "they were out of stock". So they may carry it as well.

The RP filter used to be a PepBoys exclusive. Rumor had it that this would only last a year but I believe it's been out over a year now or very close.

hmm interesting... def. glad I went with the RP filter as well, wont use anything else after researching the quality that goes into them and the filtration yielded.

Also here is some food for thought, I inspected my engine oil "royal purple" and it was the normal color of any other engine oil.... however when it was new and I was pouring it into the engine it was a dark purple color.... whats with the color change? burned off color additive ? and if so, could that be harmful to the motor?
