What are the odds that a 2005 TL being a future great 150000 miles cars?

I wouldn't trust that car long term. Will be returned to BMW in 4 mo.

I LOVED driving the car, but it drove me crazy. Plus I am a dedicated DIYer and this avalanche of little problems kept me going back to the dealer for warranty work. And anything you have to pay for is horribly expensive -- the parts, the labor, the whole thing. I sold the car at 70K because I believed it was a ticking time bomb, just waiting to blast me with a huge bill. Major components (engine, tranny, rear end) were solid as a rock. Little stuff (for instance, I never had a BMW that didn't need a water pump before 50K) will drive you crazy.
And based on everything I've heard, BMW does not perceive reliability to be a problem. Rather they believe that you pay a certain price to have cutting-edge innovation. I suppose that's true, but I don't want it to be on my dime and I also resent the inconvenience of having to return the car to the shop so frequently for mundane problems, like water pumps. They should know how to make water pumps and window regulators, IMHO.

My current 2002 Explorer V-8 4X4 has 134,000 miles on it. Only tires & oil changes so far. Will trade it for an Expedition in a few months for additional towing capacity.

150k should be no problem it the car is properly maintained... But chances are you will start to run into more major problems as you get closer to 150k
87 Acura Legend sold @ 187k ran perfect. 91 Acura Legend sold @ 156k... Alternator went at 150k, AC went at 120k, few other odd ball things. 93 Acura Legend currently @ 160k, AC just went last summer, radiator crack @ 120k alternator went @ 130k, rear wheel hubs went @ around 150k, replaced saggy koni's @ 150k (free, self install under warranty).

I have 235K miles on my '00 TL. I also have a CL-S. I'm convinced that the J32 and J35 engines can easily reach 300K miles or more, especially if you use synthetic oil. For the tranny you can use synthetic as well and add a transmission cooler to aid in longevity. Just my 2CW! The Honda V-6 block has been around since 1991 or so, bulletproof.

I have a '98 3.2TL with 150K+ miles on it and it still runs like it's new. The key to getting over 100K miles is maintenance. Regular Oil changes + Tranny fluid changes, along with the necessary 90K maintenance (timing belt, thermostat, belts) will keep you running like new.

I plan to keep the car for 300k since there are no better cars out there for the money. I will let everyone know. Do every maintenance by the book and do it with oem parts. I change my oil once a month (5000 miles) and the car doesn't burn a drop. I didn't burn a drop with the TC when I traded it in. I will let you all know but I would have never bought this car if the reliability wasn't top notch!

My 00TL has more than 130k on it & still on the original tranny ... just did the timing belt/water pump change & hopefully this one can run for another 50k at least ... it's a spare car but has better MPG than my 07 type-s ....
So I have no doubt the 3G TL can run 150k easy with the regular mainten. serv.

Saintor, Acuras are great cars and will last for the long haul. And thats the bottom line. You knew that before you started this thread though.
For example...my 1st Gen 96' 3.2 TL has about 227,000 miles on it. Still runs like a champ. Service engine soon light is on though, to get it fixed...the engine might as well be replaced. But thats at 227,000. The engine doesnt knock, no smoke, sounds like its brand new....the service engine light comes from a misfire in one or two cylenders.
Just bought me an 08 TL. Ima try my best to get it up to 300,000. I'm a traveling musician so it should be pretty easy. All while taking good care of it of course(oil changes, tune ups, tire rotations, ect.). I'm sure it'll last me that long.

i think 150k should be okay. i HOPE my car lasts at least 150k.
My Uncles camry 92-96 generation not sure on which year, but it has about 326,000+ miles(sold at). still runs perfect, interior is just like new. Only thing that was wrong was it needed a new transmission at about 300,000.

I've owned Hondas for as long as I've been driving and I've put over 150k easily. Hondas are solid as long as you keep up with the maintenance and of course it also depends on how hard you drive them. I recently purchased an 08 TL and I'm fairly confident in Honda's reliability, even though the TL is not Japanese made. I think they should have worked out the smaller kinks here and there with the earlier models and I'm sure it will last easily. I didn't even go out of my way to purchase any extended warranty for it. Honda/Acura is highly rated for reliability and I'm going with that. I've never needed the warranty for any of the other Honda vehicles i have owned, granted that this will be the first with all the electrical gizmos in it. Still...

I have an '05 A-Spec and on my way back from LA over the weekend I went over 110k. I haven't had any problems what so ever just a battery at 90k. I love my TL and it's been a great vehicle. I had a '92 Legend that I put over 300k on and that was one of the main reasons I stayed with Acura.

Back on topic, given reasonable care and a little luck, 150k should be a piece of cake in the TL. I'm at 41k, replaced the battery and tires are coming soon, that's it so far

I don't think the question is "Will it make it to 150,000 miles," it should be "How much money are you going to burn getting there?" I had a Nissan Maxima that got me to 145000 without a peep (love those timing chains that you don't touch). But this '05 TL has been in the shop for warranty more than a car has a right too. Still love the car, but I am a bit skeptical it will be cheap to hold on to it:
Since 48000 miles:
1) Four window regulators replaced
2) Upholstery over tailight replaced
3) Radio mysteriously resets Bass, Treble and Subwoofer to factory middle settings every few weeks (had the dealership hook up their laptop to the car to tell me they don't know why) so I have to adjust them every couple weeks when the sound goes flat.
4) Both passenger and driver's rearview mirrors have delaminated (brown color creeping around the sides/edges of the mirrors. Got them both replaced under warranty
Honestly quite a few other things (dash fade, 3rd gear, sunroof noise). I am not feeling too great about just coming off warranty repairs with a thousand miles left on the warranty. I think you can make any car last 150,000 miles, how much money are you willing to spend?

I have 63k on my car and it has one problem. it keep getting speeding tickets. I tell it to slow down but she dont listen that well. i even put in ipod adapter and dom's unit thinking it would slow her down, but it didnt work...
really,, i drive me car everyday. i have another just cant stop driving my TL. i drive hard and fast. I get my oil changed on time and take it to the dealer for everything except for rotation, balance and alignment. car is in perfect condition, with exception to the freaking rust on the caliper, and the outdated NAV disc i keep forgetting to replace, outside of that perfect.

I'll say again that I would replace the transmission fluid much more often than is recommended if you plan on keeping it out of the warranty period.
Same goes for the powersteering.
If you follow the maintenance minder, might be a good idea to use synthetic oil for the long haul. Mine has taken me out to just over 7,000 miles which is way out of my comfort zone for a regular dino oil.
I truly believe that a lot of the maintenance schedule like plugs at 106,000 miles or whatever it is, is just a selling point for the car.

Definitely a car that will take 150 with ease and make it over 200 even easier; my friend had a mint 97 tl with 190 car ran like it was new until it was slammed. other than that i dont think it would be hard for this car to achieve that mileage if its not driven to be broken.

I have 125k changed the tires once and just now comming up with the first real maintenance on the car; the timing belt $1100. Car runs almost good as new, still love it, no complaints.

I think the TL can make it to 150k, but I'm still not convinced that the transmission will last much longer than 150k, especially if the vehicle was driven in-town. The supplier of remanufactured transmissions for Honda dealers told me that they are still getting a lot of 03-05 Honda V6 transmissions at their facility for remanufacturing.

i saw an 05 at the dealer a month ago with 200k on it..... the mechanic was totolly shocked at the mileage.... the guy blew his motor from not changing oil for some odd reason and he paid out of pocket to fix the car because of the comfort the car has.... it will surpass 150 as long as u keep the maintenance going correctly whether u or acura does it.

^^wtf?? 200k tl not cahngin oil blowing motor and paying what, 2-3 grand for a new motor?
anyways there's a guy on here with an 05 RL with over 200k on it and that's been low maintenace...i don't see a reason a TL won't go the distance.

150k
I traded in a 94 Accord with 248K that was running strong to get my TL. I would have kept it, but my wife said that I can't keep all the cars I've ever owned, and I would have waited a few more weeks to turn over 250 but I couldn't wait any longer to get a TL. Mine is an 04 with 97K so far and no problems. I put almost 100 miles a day on the car, and will reach 150 by late next year. Look around--almost every car Honda has sold since the early 80's is still on the road. I expect that the 3G's will just be getting started at 150. 300K is another matter. Would the car hold enough value by then to justify the cost of repairs to less essential systems? Probably not.
