The yellow EverStart Maxx from Walmart is still the top rated battery in group 24F by Consumer Reports, the one I use. I typically get 3½ years from any battery and I'm on my 4th one now after 13½ years.

The Honda 100-Month battery in my Accord is now nine and a half years old and still starts the car even after a few weeks of sitting.

I will say that is very impressive! Do you keep it on a battery tender or something?

Good to know as this has been my go to replacement battery for years. Fortunately / unfortunately none of the family vehicles is in need of a replacement.

I have an Interstate in mine. I run an amp to power a sub as well.

I run an optima red top and a beefier alternator in my Silverado 2500 since it has higher electrical needs with a plow and a small civic sized yellow top in my s2000, which my compustar alarm will drain if left un-connected to a trickle charger.

  • Nope, I haven't done anything but ignore the battery since I bought the Accord.
  • I purchased the Accord in August of 2012; at the time I noticed the battery looked pretty old and grimy and I assumed I'd need to replace it sooner or later.
  • In May of 2017 I bought a 2006 TL with the intention of driving it and selling the Accord.
  • In July of 2017, after not having been started for about 7 weeks, I tried to start the car; there was barely enough juice left in the battery to unlock the doors. I jumped started the car and have driven it at least once every two weeks or so since then and have had no issues.
  • Two weeks ago I lent the Accord to my younger brother and his wife while they're waiting for her to figure out what she wants and can afford for her next car; at this point it is pretty much a daily driver so the battery should easily last well beyond the 10-year mark.

^^^Are you certain that the Accord battery hadn't possibly been replaced before you bought it?

Per the paperwork which came with the car, the battery in the Accord was replaced in March of 2008; that corresponds with the punch out markers on the top of the battery for the in-service date.

I think if a battery goes 5-6 years that is good but 10 years is awesome!

Just put in an Exide 24FX because it has 800 Cold Cranking Amps. Fit was a bit tight due to it having some extra side pieces for clamping that's probably used for other makes of vehicles. It did fit just required getting everything lined up right.

The Honda battery in the car is only 2 years old and it was dead the other day. Plus it almost seemed the like the Honda battery was swelling on the sides. Tried charging it up and it had issues and the cost of a new battery wasn't worth the hassle to deal with the garbage Honda one.

I bought my Cadillac with an optima in it and it lasted me about 4 years so I got another one when I sold my Cadillac I put it in my TL never had a problem. I prefer dry cell here because they heat kills so many batteries In San Antonio and worse when I lived in Harlingen TX the heat and Humidity is unbearable there. While so many of my friends were having batteries going bad and weak in the heat I had no problems cranking up my two 12's and one 15 in subs.

Keep in mind, Honda batteries installed in the car on the assembly line are built to different specifications and by a different company than Honda branded replacement batteries. The good news for my Accord is the battery in it is one of the replacement units.

very nice. Wish I could get 10 years on a battery. I wanted to try getting the old battery replaced via the Honda dealer, but the previous owner didn't have the receipt. Local honda dealer said they couldn't look up records from another dealer.

I just gave up and got the Exide one since it had the high CCA and a 40 month warranty. Plus, it was priced very competitively compared to the auto parts stores.

The voltage on the new battery is 12.80 so it seems like the alternator is working ok as it went up from 12.6. There was some hidden corrosion on the positive cable which was a pain in the butt to clean. Had to use a small wire brush. Sprayed the terminals with the Battery Terminal Protector when i put the new battery on so hopefully I am problem free for a while.
