What the HELL does the GS300 have on the 04TL?!

For the fool that said he has owned a lexus gs300,bmw and acura and that the TL is not even close to the gs300,here is what
i have to say, Comical..

I wouldnt trade my 04TL for your GS300 + your girlfriend + 5k in cash.. The look of the gs is so outdated and plain..The interior of
the TL blows it away, the power, looks,Nav also blow it away.

No comparison between the gs300 and an 04TL..

To each his own. There is no arguing that the GS interior sports better materials including REAL wood, but I would agree that it's styling and performance are sorely lacking especially compared to peers in its price range.

When I test drove the TL, I stopped by Lexus to checkout the GS400. For $15G more, I still dont think that has anything on the TL, IMO.

They pur customer satisfaction at the top of their list. Their vehicles are built well and strong, and dont for the most part have issues, along with BMW and Mercedes. Infiniti and Acura are just entry level luxury vehicles in my eyes, and based on the price, you get what you pay for.....

Wait so the "experience" of owning the Lexus GS (let's say) is worth the $10,000-$15,000 premium over the Acura TL?? No thanks. I'd rather get a 2k4 TL w/Navi ($35k) and also buy a 2k4 Honda Civic LX ($15k) for a daily beater.

you can say the gs 430 is 'better' than a tl. the gs 300 sure isnt. there is no comparison. the gs 300 isnt much better than a loaded camry. thats coming from someone who has driven both. tl is more roomy, quieter, faster, just as well built and has more features, handles better and costs less. go drive a gs 300. a new one. youll see. and the gs 300 DOES NOT sport real wood. or any wood.

I had the pleasure of borrowing an RX 300 for a month. It was beautifully finished and luxurious, it was also slow, torpid and cramped. After driving it for a month and returning to my cheap old odyssey I thought I the odyssey was a Ferrari. You could say my lexus ownership experience was pretty underwhelming at best.

I did own one (IS 300) for 3 years! I'm a very happy Acura customer now ....

I agree with the earlier comments that the TL is unique and nothing in the Lexus portfolio really completes in the price range just yet! Give it a year. Lexus guys are smart will figure out how to better compete with the TL!

Till then, we'll all be driving our TL's and smilin

Thats a distinct possibility. But, I doubt it, I think Lexus is happy being the Japanese Merc and Acura the Bimmer.

I have been in a GS 300 and although I liked it a lot, the interior reminded me of my 1992 Vintage Accord only better qulity. This cars interior was perfectly put together and fast, but it is way outdated. They must have been running this car for about 10 years.

I've had a GS300, GS400 and GS430 prior to my 5AT Anthracite/Navi that I picked up last week. The GS was a great car and drove great - when the roads were dry. Forget it in snow - even with 4 Blizzaks. Even on wet roads the traction control would frequently kick in when making a turn. So far so good with the TL. I don't see any difference in the pick-up getting onto highways. I also love the look of this car over the GS.

Not really sure why you people are comparing the GS to a TL. The GS can be compared to an RL, not a TL. Give Lexus sometime, to engineer the IS430. We'll see who handles and performs better in the 35k price range.

Also, as far as Acura quality, fit, and finish goes, they have fallen in my eyes. Definetly can't compare the new TL's to the older Legend's which were built 100% in Japan with top notch finish. As of today, Acura can't stand a chance against Lexus luxury. When Acura develops something that can compete with the LS430, then we'll talk.

Fun Factor

Did you all forget about the "fun factor?"

I've had both a GS300 and a Mercedes CE320 (back in the day), and I can tell you the TL is way more fun to drive, and if you add the "technology factor" I think the TL is the "wise mans" choice.

I love driving in my TL, everytime I get in it, I think "aww"

Don't dispair its coming this year, and if the TL is any indication it should blow the LS away (maybe). I'm worried that acura is not ready psychologically to offer a 50k car (the NSX is a joke they sell loss than 50 a year).

The IS430 doesn't even exist yet so who cares about it now. The current IS is a nicer version of the civic

lexus is a wannabe Merc. and will never be a Merc, or for that matter an Acura. look at what where comparing here, a 50k lexus to a 35k acura. why arnt we comparing the IS? b/c lexus cant come close to an acura foe that price range. and if you say that you get your moneys worth with an acura then of course the GS would/should be a better car in everything, BECAUSE YOUR PAYING 15K MORE FOR THE CAR. i sure help your getting more in a GS.
as you can see the IS is about the same price as the TL and which is better? the TL. my point provin

both my parents have lexuses, i have a 04 TL... the lexuses are more comfortable to ride in and they seem to be built on a higher standard... My parents bought me a tl because i liked the gadgets... but i probably would have liked a G35coupe better... or even better yet, an S2000 or Mustang Cobra.

i dunno why people are so defensive about what car is "better" get what you like and let it go already. to me the TL is a better car than the GS300 so i bought a TL. if you think otherwise then get the other car. this ain't brain surgery.

Lexus has excellent quality history. According to Consumers Reports, BMW and MB do not. Sweet looking and driving cars but they are not built to the same quality standard as the japanese makes. At least according to their respective repair history at C/R.

I have truly read some dumb **** in this thread. I am dumber for it. I cannot believe the low intelligence level of some people here.

GS 300 owners are not people who want to race or care about the best car. For those saying the TL has more features, no **** dummies, the GS has been out since 1997 as a 98 model That is 7 years ago just about. The TL better have new features. THe TL still is based on an Accord no matter how u cut it. The GS is platform specific with the legendary 2JZ engine.

The TL maybe faster and offer XM and bluetooth but lacks the quality, fit and finish and refinement of the GS 300.
b/c lexus cant come close to an acura foe that price range
Lexus is not trying to butcher the luxury name selling cheap cars.
The IS430 doesn't even exist yet so who cares about it now. The current IS is a nicer version of the civic
Turd, the IS is a shorter platform of the GS. The TL is a nicer version of the Accord.
As of today, Acura can't stand a chance against Lexus luxury. When Acura develops something that can compete with the LS430, then we'll talk.
Thank you.

BTW, here is what the new GS 300 is going to offer.

Lexus introduced the new GS luxury sport sedan today at a press conference at the North American International Auto Show. The all-new, more powerful GS utilizes the latest in advanced technology to improve both performance and handling and is the first in a new wave of Lexus products to reflect a new, more passionate direction in styling.

"From a technology standpoint, the GS employs a sophisticated array of advanced safety, comfort and convenience features that will cause even the most enthusiastic driver to take notice," said Denny Clements, Lexus group vice president and general manager. "From a design standpoint, the new GS will be the first vehicle in our lineup to benefit from a new, more passionate direction in styling."

First All-Wheel Drive Model
Significantly, the new GS will feature all-wheel-drive, the first such application in any Lexus car, and offer the performance enhancements and advanced vehicle control of the Lexus Vehicle Dynamic Management (VDM) system. Monitoring a variety of sensors, the system is capable of anticipating the onset of a vehicle skid or slide and then helps correct the situation with a combination of braking and throttle control. The new VDM system is less obtrusive than conventional VSC but ultimately more effective.

Performance Optimized
Joining the potent and refined 4.3-liter V8 will be an all-new 245-horsepower V6 engine replacing the current inline six. Both the powerful V6 and V8 engines benefit from an all-new close-ratio 6-speed automatic transmission with a sequential manual-shifting mode. The combination provides faster and substantially smoother acceleration for even better performance and, surprisingly, improved fuel economy. A new Adaptive Variable Suspension allows the driver to fine-tune suspension damping with four settings ranging from normal-mode for everyday driving to a sport-mode for a tighter, more precise feel.

New Lexus Design Direction
From an architectural standpoint, the GS marks a move towards a more sculptural direction... that is artistic, dynamic, simple... yet intriguing. A two-inch longer wheelbase and short overhangs on the new GS creates a wide, powerful stance. A long hood, pulled-back cabin and slingshot windows recall classic sports car proportions and the vertical grille surrounded by four independent headlamps connects the new GS with the outgoing model, but with a futuristic look. The front also features an aggressive lower valence with integrated fog lamps. Dynamic 18-inch wheels on the V8 model help tie the muscular yet elegant look together.

The creation of a unique spatial feeling in the passenger compartment is central to the new Lexus design direction. The interior of the new GS has a precision, luxury feel with ultra-premium wood, polished metal and leather accents. Everything inside the GS is designed and styled to create a haven for peaceful comfort and relaxation, from contoured and supportive front seats with optional climate control to the standard 10-speaker audio system with simple steering wheel controls.

New Intelligent Luxury Sport Sedan
In addition to a new look and feel, the new GS also improves upon the increasingly complex nature of automotive technology. The GS offers numerous standard features, such as a keyless SmartAccess that allows the driver to lock, unlock and start the car simply by touching the door handle (with a key fob in pocket) and then simply pressing a push-button to start. An advanced Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPM) can detect and notify the driver, via an indicator warning light, of a significant loss in pressure in one or more tires, a condition that could potentially lead to premature tire wear and loss of control. The GS will also feature the Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS), which helps illuminate a turn or curve as the driver steers into it.

A rear back-up camera is also added for 2006, providing an extra margin of confidence when reversing the vehicle. Available in conjunction with the optional navigation system, it automatically projects an image of what the camera lens can detect behind the vehicle onto the navigation screen when the vehicle is in the reverse gear.

"With the new GS we took all that was good in terms of technology and found ways to make it more intuitive, more intelligent and more relevant to the needs of its driver," said Clements.

Advanced Safety Features
The GS will also offer an optional Pre-Collision System (PCS) that can help reduce collision injury and damage. The system uses a millimeter-wave radar sensor to detect obstacles in front of the car and a pre-collision system computer with vehicle speed, steering angle and yaw rate inputs that help to determine in advance whether a collision is unavoidable. The system then preemptively retracts front seat belts and prepares Brake Assist for increased braking force to help reduce collision speed.

In addition, the new GS gains new knee airbags for the driver and front passenger as well as front and rear side curtain airbags as standard equipment. The Supplemental Restraint System in the new GS also includes variable-force front airbags for both driver and front passenger. Sensors determine the severity of the accident and in turn the force with which to deploy the front airbags, helping to provide the appropriate level of occupant restraint.

"Nearly every feature on the GS makes this sports sedan more manageable and more engaging to drive," said Clements.

Preliminary Specifications
Wheelbase: 112.2 in.
Length: 189.8 in.
Width: 71.7 in.
Height: 56.1 in.
Engines: 3.0 liter V6 - 245 hp; 228 lb.-ft. of torque

as far as comfort goes the 2 lexuses we have are better than my TL. But it really does come to personaly preference. I really liked the 3 series actually because of the great handling and road feel. I also liked the interior amber lights.

Why the hell does 1Sicklex even hang around the Acura forums if all he does is negatively critique the cars and the company while simultaneously praising Lexus? What's the point? We're morons? Fine, why not leave before you get any dumber from reading the idiotic posts???

Bub, I have never bashed the TL. It's a damn good car and a good step up from the last one. This is a FORUM, where people DEBATE and state OPINIONS. I've met tons of Acura owners through meets here in Atlanta. I also never start any dumbass threads like this.

The question was what the hell does the GS 300 have on the TL and I stated it.

If you don't like my opinion that the IS looks like a Civic, thats fine but you do not need to call me a name if you felt insulted by it.

You are still comparing cars that do not exsist yet. You listed a long post of what the new GS will have, and compared the TL to a IS430. I think the Lexus is a nice car, but let's talk about cars that actually are on the road instead of imaginary vehicles

Quick Reply: What the HELL does the GS300 have on the 04TL?!
