never stops!
If you are trying to save money, you will not save more than $1500 - $2000 by filling regular during entire period you own the car. It's not worth to compromise the power output.

premium there is a 10 cent difference per gallon right now. if you get 20 gallons a week that comes out to 2 bucks extra 52 weeks in a year that is extra 104 dollars. if you get 40 gallons a week then it doubles to 208 dollars extra. dude are you that broke that you cannot afford the extra couple of hundred bucks? if so then you should have got another car.

FWIW – Higher the octane fuel has a higher ignition point, lower octane fuel will actually make more power. We give up the power from the fuel, so that we can raise the compression ratio, which gives even more power. Once you raise the comp. ratio the cylinder temps rise and low octane fuel can ignite before the spark plug fires (and that’s bad). Modern cars have sensors that listen for this early detonation, and will detune the engine to prevent any damage.

Now, if/when premium is over 50+ cents difference, then I won't be shopping for vehicles that "require" it.. Nor will many manufacturers be trying to sell them in this price range....
Just my opinion
Premium, "It just tastes better!"

Premium here as well. But I must admit, I use Hess, Citgo and Marathon sometimes. The swing in price between those and the Mobil, Shell, BP, etc. is anywhere from .10 to .20 a gallon. I still get 93 octane and the gas comes from the same holding tanks as the others.
