What is going on?

Ok, after waiting 6 weeks for my CAI, its finally in, but now there is another problem. The parts store I bought it from says that they have to remove the front bumber to install, and that will cost an extra $100 on top of the initial install quote. Am i getting screwed here or what? Do they really need to take off the front bumper to install an air filter? Seems kinda strange to me.

You DO NOT need to remove the front bumper to install a CAI. All that is needed is to remove the wheel and fender liner. In fact, the instructions that come with the CAI use this method. By the way, you should consider installing it yourself.

Yea I think im just going to do it myself, i just like having someone else accountable for any problems. And besides, why take it somewhere that wants to rip you off anyway.

I did my CAI myself. It took about 2 hours and I did not need to remove the bumper. Actually it took 1 1/2 hours to unbolt everything and remove the factory stuff. It took 1/2 to install the CAI and put everything back together. Real easy to do. I believe there's a DIY thread on this subject.

This might help a bit, if you have any questions just ask, its not that hard really.

Its easier with the front bumper removed but not necessary.

Exactly.

And as everyone has said, the install is fairly easy. The hardest part was removing the u-tube on the stock air box...it takes some elbow grease and patience (something I have very little of). Everything's straightforward and the instructions are pretty good.

Complicated stuff, I can justify paying someone to do it. Something as simple as a CAI? Make a weekend project out of it, if anything.

That's how I started learning. I didn't know shit, but I just gave it a tackle. And I ended up installing everything on my car myself. And you get to learn a lot about your car and cars in general in the process.

Like subinf said, post here if you run into a problem or are not sure about something. A lot of us have done it ourselves and I'm sure one of us can help you out.

Well I used to work part time in a auto shop, and rebuilt transmissions and heater blocks and brakes, etc. and this is not a hard task by far, its just the thought of taking my expensive car apart that gets me worried.
