So what gas brand do you use and why?

Citgo

Mainly because it's the only place that actually sells 91, and that's only at one station (7-eleven). Saves me 5 cents/gal vs. 93.

BP, Shell, and Chevron. When i was going to get an s2000 (before I realized I just cant fit), they were having this big thing about how some gas really is better than others for performance. I didnt believe them at first and I suppose it could just be that placebo effect, but I feel like it does make a difference. They had a list on s2ki.com that included a few other top tier gasses than the ones I use, but those are the ones in my area. I put Citco, Amaco, and old school Exxon in the "boring" cars though.

Sometimes, Chevron because I can feel the difference in the drive compared to Costco gas.

Any ones that I like, like Shell, Chevron, 76, Texaco and thats it. If I need gas immediately I'll settle for anything.....

Haha. I put Costco gas in my TL since day one!! Its cheap but there is always a long ass line at Costco for gas.

Sunoco because I can get 94 if I felt like it, and it's the official fuel of NASCAR.

Or I get Shell just as often... I always ran Mobile then one day I was on the highway and was dangerously running low on gas. I found a Shell station and filled up on the 93 octane V-Power. I honestly didn't even give it a second thought, but I realized all of a sudden that my car felt more responsive and smoother.

I could only vote for one in the poll, so I picked Sunoco because I get Sunoco a little more often than Shell.

I run Exxon Supreme or Shell V-power, mostly because they are in my daily drive path. I would run Chevron because of brand loyalty, but they've all but pulled out of the Nashville area.

When I switched from Swifty(cheap) to the major brands, my MPG went up by about 3 miles per....I was very suprised.

I've had good and bad tanks at nearly every station I've filled up at, regardless of the brand, so I'm not very picky. usually its whatever is the least expensive. Usually Arco, 76, Chevron, Shell...76 is close to where I live so if I'm in a hurry I just fill up there. I hate Arco cause I usually never have enough cash for a complete fill up and the .45 cent ATM fee sometimes isnt worth what I save if its only a few gallons.

Oh no.....not another better gasoline thread! My father worked at an oil refinery for over 20 years. If you only knew how similar all the brands are you will stop wasting your money on Brand X with Y additive. Since he worked at a private oil company they made gasoline for ALL of the major oil companies. They did not shut down gas production for each oil company to avoid contamination wiht someone elses gas. Think about it! All the oil companies try to get you to believe their gas is better because is has such and such additive and they care about the environment. Gasoline is highly regulated and must satisfy certain specifications. Remember, your car has to run using any oil manufacturer you choose not just the one you think is better.

I watched a documentary on oil refineries not too long ago. Very insteresting stuff, and yes, they do stop production between cycles. And the "mixed" stuff is sent back for separation and then put through the cycle again, or sold to industries that don't really care.

Well, the way i see it is that if the difference in gas prices is 7 cents (which is usually the difference in my area between citgo and shell which are the exact same in distance from my house)... if it takes 14 gallons til fill ' er up. Thats .07 x 14 which is equal to .98 cents. If it costs me 98 cents to trick myself into thinking that my car is faster...in my book, its worth it

you guys use premium in your car??? 89 works for me...the TL's engine isn't forced inducted or anything that would require you guys to run 91+ oct.

The poll choices don't include my choice—whichever major brand is most convenient when I need gas. Typically I will use one of three: the Shell that I pass on the way to work, the Mobil station in the next county over some 10 miles away that has a car wash with no rails (good during the winter, and 22¢ a gallon cheaper than in my county), or the Hess station in Alexandria that's 20¢ a gallon cheaper than the Exxon located right across the street from the Hess!

I never use the Liberty station located about 2 miles from home, though, even though it's cheap. I don't know anything about Liberty gas and therefore I don't trust it.

Hess is generally the cheapest and closest in proximity to my house (although there are probably 20 gas stations in a 5 miles radius, Hess always seems to just "be there").

Only use 93.....

HEB. There are 3 stations at the same intersection. The majority of the time they are at the same price, but if one is going to be cheaper then HEB usually is. Plus it's the easiest to get in and out of given the way I am normally going.

My car had nothing but Chevron from the station near my house for 2 reasons - 1. It's a Chevron station, 2. One of the cheapest in the area according to gasbuddies.

I try to use shell v power but if one is not in range then I go with BP, then Mobile. I most likly use those gases more then others because they advertise them on T.V. more, so they are in my brain.

Is there really a big differece in 91 octane Shell and 94 octane Sunoco?

well at one point chevron had lil banners saying...there were rated top tier by some well known people (i forget) and that the gas they provided (Supreme Chvron with Techron) was made specifially for BMW and HONDA motors...How much of this is true I dont know...but it made me want it more!!! they even had pictures of pistons on there showing one with alot of carbon built up and all that comparison shit....

I usually get the cheapest, and that's from one of two stations, both Petro Express (one near work, one near the house). If I run low on gas and I'm not near either home or work, I get whatever is available (always 93 around here...very few places have 91).

Yeah the few times I went to Charlotte...I would see this gas station that had the normal stuff (cheap, premium, supreme) and than in the middle would have completely differ pump for "Race Fuel"...I was amazed...I never saw that before anywhere else...But It never had the octane rating on there...somewhere in the ballentyne corporation plaza..

Also, if I don't think I can make it to a Chevron before I run out of gas, I will put in like 5 dollars of some other gas brand, and then fill up at Chevron ASAP.

One thing I learned in this thread is that Chevron might actually be quality stuff, always thought it was one of the lower quality brands...(probably because their prices were so cheap)

Here's a money saving tip, Discover has a gasoline card - save 5% off any gas station, and 1% off anything else. If you already have a discover, switch it to the gas card.

Not sure what Raceway is. If it is a private franchise or something then yes they get their gas from any of the manufacturers that will give them the best price. It's the same Chevron, Texaco, BP, etc. you get at the name brand places.

But is there an annual fee on this gas card? If so, that's going to eat into your savings. Assuming you drive 15,000 miles per and your average gas mileage is 22 mpg (that's what I average), that means you consume ~682 gallons of gas per year. 682 gallons x $2.50/gallon = $1705 in gas per year. $1705 x 5% = $85.25 in savings per year. Just something to think about.
