That's a Petro Express...about half of them, maybe three-fourths, have racing gas...100 octane...2.5-3 times the price of regular.

Raceway...they have those in SC...usually have some of the cheapest gas around.

As for credit cards...CitiBank/MasterCard has a cash back card, no fee, 1% on all purchases, 5% on gas, groceries, and drug stores...HERE

I saw a British test whereby Shell gas actually gave better dynoed power: my choice. Not Canadian Esso, because a few years back it was reported to have the highest sulphur content. Sunoco's ethanol may boost octane, but isn't is also a less powerful fuel?

Those "speedpasses" bother me. It seems where they have them that, to encourage you sign-up for a speedpass, it takes twice as long for these new pumps to "register" that you just want to buy gas with just a credit car, or with cash. I swear they've introduced a delay just for their own selfish marketing purposes, and not for the consumer.

Dont notice, I use speedpass. It gets taken out of my Credit Card, the same one that I would use anyway. 3% cash back.

It makes me a little Exxon Loyal. But I havn't had any issues as of yet.

I think the mixed stuff you refer to is fuels mixed with other octanes or diesel fuel etc in pipelines as they are no longer seperated by pigs but just by use of fluid dynamics which causes some mixing. 90+% of gasoline sold as any "brand" is formulated from fungible base gas so the only difference is additive packages and regional/seasonal formulations.

Based on information from a friend who has been a petro engineer for 15 years I rotate BP and Shell about every 5,000 miles (on my better vehicles). I get the benefit of two excellent but different additive packages. The rest of my cars get the cheapest gas I can find without going out of my way. (2 of them have over 200K miles with no fuel related issues, so it might be snake oil!)

The "Top Tier" program was established by the four automakers as a voluntary program to identify oil companies that provide a higher level of detergency that is designed to help prevent deposits on intake valves and fuel injectors, the 4 manufacturers are BMW, GM, Toyota and Honda. Not made specifically for any or all of these just meat their possibly arbitrary requirements.

I get Chevron whenever I can. Main reason is because Techron is a good additive, which is justified by the fact that you can actually buy Techron at the store. Have you ever seen V-Power or other brand's additives on the store shelf?? Also Road Rage put up some analysis on the different additives a while back and Techron came up top of the list, too lazy to search for it tho..

Mobil, 91 octane.

I agree that most petrol vendors use the same oil distributor. However, keep in mind the price difference between vendors is not cosmetic. A good reason for a 7 cent increase in neighboring stations is due to the shelf life of gasoline. For instance, Mobil sells fuel in my area for $2.87 / 91. The Arco sells for $2.77 / 91.
Mobil buys their fuel soon after it has been produced. Arco will buy the same fuel that is 1 month older at a discount.

I believe rotating the different fuels prevents buildup of a particular additive. i.e. the additive/bleach of the BP fuel will cleanse the buildup from the Shell additives, and vice versa.

In other words its better to change fuel types every so often in order to prevent buildup in the fuel lines.

In my last car I used BP gas exclusively with no problems in the ten years I owned the car with about 180,000 miles when I traded it in on the 05 TL.

From the first tank refill I am using Shell V-Power in the TL based on the top tier gasoline web link that was posted in another thread many months ago.

I would be interested in seeing some evidence about switching top tier brands to "clean-out" the other brand's additives and how many tank refills it takes to clean out the other brand's additives.

Otherwise, I'd say we have crossed over into the OCD.

I go to Costco and sometimes 76. Costco Gas is 9-13 cents cheaper that other gas stations. I have no problem so far. As long as you put 91 and above. Honestly, its all the same.
