But wondering what you guys think about going from a 2006 AM, Black Leather, Non-Nav, Manual TL to a 2010 PWP (Premium White Pearl), Black Leather, Tech Package, Manual TSX?

I like the new TSX's and thus far have been that type of guy who buys only new. All of the people who will tell me about buying used, I already know... Cars are a big waste of money, worst investment ever, etc., etc., etc. Buy used!!! I WILL DEFINITELY LOOK, but let's just assume I don't find a good quality TYPE S (TL) and I decide to opt for a new TSX... What do you guys think? Should I look elsewhere at other options (new)?

I got two little guys and diapers, formula, and milk take precedence in life now. Being more budget concious, I like what the TSX offers. Plus, we have our "baller" car... The wife has a 2010 MDX with Tech package. To some an MDX may not be baller, but it is to me and my wallet!!!

Anyway, chime in with your opinion. Thanks in advance guys!!!

I forgot to mention, but I would be going from a six cylinder to a four...

 

What is wrong with the TL that you have to swap over to a 2010 TSX? Just a new car itch?

I will admit that the 2010 TSX are quite nice but I doubt it will be much better than your current TL. Plus if you have 2 babies and baby expenses why even bother considering a TSX over your current TL?

I could be totally off base here but just my 2 cents.

 

I also have an 06 TL, AM, black leather, non-navi, and 6MT. I have driven 2 different 2010 TSX's as a loaner car when I took my TL in for warranty. They were both non-navi automatic. I like all the features, especially the screen for the radio and HVAC, but the power is not there.

I say if you can afford it go for it. It will give you better gas mileage.

 

Nothing wrong with my TL. It's got 103K on it and running strong.

I'm just contemplating... Looking around at my options and YUP, I've got that itch. Chances are that I'll run my TL to 200k if not more... But I thought I would just ask for your opinions...

 

I'd honestly just hang on to the TL for now. But if you have to scratch the itch try to get a v6 at least. Couple more thousand will pick you up a V6, which you know you want and you will regret later if you get the 4 banger.

 

I guess my question should have been that when I eventually get a new ride, what do you guys think about going from a TL to to a TSX? I'm not too bright, and should have thought this thread out a little more before posting. HA! I am just saying I like what the TSX offers at it's price point and I wanted to know what you guys thought about going from a TL to a TSX (a downgrade in most people's eyes... I guess...).

Anyways, I am not actively looking. BUT the thought has crossed my mind on a few occasions... I'm internet looking! My TL needs new brakes (pads and rotors), tires, suspension, and the infamous 105k service. So that's a few bills right there. Not to mention it has been rear ended twice and the second time really f-ed it up. I have taken the car back to the body shop 5 times and it's still not right. The car will just never look like it did the day I bought it. Right now there are gaps all over, nothing fits tight, and the bumper actually sits crooked, etc., etc.

So that's why I am thinking about dumping my TL and going for something else...

Anyways, I'll probably still have my car three years from now. Because not having car payments is nice, and it still runs good, even though the rear is f-ed up.

By the way, if you live in NOVA, POHANKA is the worst body shop ever. If you don't believe me, PM me for pics of my car... Their own employee even admitted to me that they should've taken more time welding the rear cross member in when replacing it in my car. But now they won't fix it because it'll probably cost their shop too much $$$.

OP, the opinions on TL ---> TSX could vary widely. You may have to test drive the TSX and decide for yourself. There are definitely some differences - the first you will notice is steering feel.

i know somebody that migrated from the TL, to the RDX, to the TSX 6 cylinder. He's quite happy with that TSX. RL engine in a body thats lighter than the TL...

 

As long as you don't mind the loss in power, I don't think you're downgrading too much.

 

Why would you get the 4 cyl when a V6 is available?
The 4 cyl also requires preminum fuel but has over 100 less HP.
If 4 cyl. your choice, forget the idea.

 

There is nothing wrong with the OP's question IMO. I just has the T-belt and waterpump done on my 2004 TL about 2 weeks ago and they gave me a 2010 TL with the Tech package and the 3.5 liter. I liked the push button start, but other than that, the new TL felt huge. I had to raise the seat as high as it would go so I could feel comfortable driving the car. I HATE that electric power steering. Feels way too loose. And because the new car is so much heavier, it actually felt slower than my car, which has around the same horsepower with the upgrades I've done. I felt like I was driving a spaceship. The new tsx V6 however is a lot of fun to drive, and is about the same size as a 3G TL. If my car was falling apart, and I couldn't find another TL to replace it with, I'd consider the TSX V6. The difference in horsepower between the 4cyl TSX and 6 cyl is 79 horsepower by the way. Not over 100 as mentioned in an earlier post.

 

You're correct. The way the Acura website has it listed, the torque rating for the 4 cyl M/T (172) is actually under the HP category.

 

Since you mentioned having two kids, make sure to check out the small back seats. I considered a 2010 TSX V6, but after checking out the back seat it went right off the list. I'm 6'5" and would need the seat all the way back. Neither my son (2 years old) or my daughter, coming in November would fit. The rear facing seat had no chance and the toddler seat my son uses would be tight.

You DEFINITELY picked the wrong body shop! Who gives a shit if it costs THEM too much $$$ to redo it the right way. They're the ones who fucked up the repair work to begin with. If a shop left my car that way, I'd make them an offer they couldn't refuse to make it right.

Tell them to redo the job or you'll file complaints with the Better Business Bureau and your state's attorney general's office FOR STARTERS. Then let them know you're getting media exposure to the quality of their work which could severely impact their business. Whatever you do, DON'T LET THEM GET AWAY WITH LEAVING YOUR CAR LIKE THAT!!

As for moving up to a new TSX, if the repairs on your TL aren't made right, any buyer or dealer trading the car in is going to see that the car's been smacked up and you'll wind up getting ZILCH for it.

And hereafter, if you ever need a body shop again, ask around for recommendations and always check with BBB.ORG to see if they have complaints filed against them.

NOVA = Northern Virginia. IMO, Pohanka is by far one of the best Acura dealerships in the region. Perhaps it is their body shop that suck.

 

Both are nice. But i like the TL better.

 

Is the 2G TSX really noticeably smaller than the 3G TL? I remember going with a friend to test drive the 2G TSX and thought "this rear seat is TINY." But it's been a while since then and the 2G TSX exterior looks as large as the 3G TL.

I say stay with the TL. Save your dimes, nickels, and pennies and buy a new TL when you have drove your current TL to the ground. That will take another few years. Maybe by then, you can buy the next NSX (if they ever will bring it back!).

 

I have actually been looking to do the same thing. Currently have 3g TL w/Nav. If you look up the 3g TL vs the 2G TSX they are almost virtually the same size inside. I have really been leaning toward getting the 2G TSX just because I do not like the way the 4G TL looks. Also, you are not losing any size with the new TSX comparatively speaking from the 3G TL. I would go TSX if you are struggling with the looks of the new 4G TL.

 

I don't like the beaks of any of the TL's, if Acura don't fix their design before my TL brakes down, I'm converting to BMW. I don't care if they boast a V8 500hp TL, if that beak is still there, I will no longer be an Acura driver. I love the interior, they are masters of interior car design, but WTF on the beak??? I know this has been talked about for like 6 years, but I still want to stab my eyes out every time I see the new Acura's. I saw, keep your TL since you need to save money, and when your ready , get a 3/5 series.

 

To get a 3/5 series beamer with navi costs an arm and a leg. That is probably half the reason why people buy Acura. You get a loaded car with all the bells and whistles for a lower price. That is the reason I love Acura.

 

I never came from a TL to TSX, but I drove my friend's TL in the school's parking lot. Its a pretty solid car, but I do feel its pretty big for my taste... I like to also that the TSX will handle than the TL due to size.

And the MDX is not a bad car. You're married, and probably have kids or gonna have kids, so a MDX is a good choice for your family.

 

Where do you get this from? The TL beats the TSX in handling and braking.


'10 TSX- 185.6 x 72.4 x 56.7 106.4" wheelbase.

'08 TL- 189.3 x 72.0 x 56.7 107.9" wheelbase.

So the TL is narrower and the same height as the TSX. About the same weight with the TL being slightly lighter. 1.5" longer wheelbase for the TL and a few inches in overall length.

None of these numbers would affect handling except the longer wheelbase of the TL would make it more stable.

 

Its driver perspective where I got it from, but I know for sure the size of the TL makes it feel less nimble. Ahh, and I was talking about the 1G TSX too.

Oh, by the way. Nice Buick, 10 second car. Respect.

 

That is my biggest thing that I like about the 2G TSX. It seems they basically took the same exact frame from the 3G TL and made it the TSX. Now the new TL is even larger, but now its ugly. I think I may be leaning toward trading in my new 3G TL for a 2G TSX.

 

i just hope the 2g TSX has the same touch screen navi as a 3g TL. when its time to trade in the TL im probably gonna look into the 2g TSX 6-cylinder used unless Acura can can change up the TL's next gen looks.

The TSX is a nice looking car , but so is the TL. The TSX is slower than the TL so now its easier to make a decision. :-)

besides your right, it is a downgrade to go from a TL to a TSX. Just look at the tail lights on the TSX, they arent unique or even LED like the TL, they are literally two tiny solid red circles kinda like the RDX. And the stock rims from the TSX just look cheap so def. throw on some non oem rims. And the rear break light isnt LED like the TL.

and u lose the front and rear sidemarker lights if u get a TSX. Even the 2009+ TL's lose the side markers :-(

sidemarkers are a big deal cuz not to many cars have em and if they do, they dont have BOTH front and rear :-)

 

Am I the only person that is not concerned with power?? I really do not care that the TL is faster than the TSX. It is a really hard decision since the 3G TL is the best looking tl they have ever made. So what do you upgrade to then if you own a 3G TL and you are looking for something new?? The new TL is not an option, that thing is hideous.

 

Out of curiosity, how do you think buying a new car going to save you money?

Assuming you bought the car new (in 2005), you've just about paid it off. That also assumes you went for a 60 month loan as well.

IMHO, you seem to be talking out of both sides of your mouth. On the one, you want to be more budget conscious; On the other, you have a new car itch.

Granted -- all my assumptions could be way off base. But I'd say they describe the typical new car buyer.

Not trying to flame or attack you, but I'm seriously questioning your judgement considering that you have two precious children who need your resources and are claiming to be budget conscious.

I can honestly say I would go with a new V6 TSX over a new TL if I had to replace my TL today. IMO, *if* they are a downgrade, the gap is so small it's barely noticable. Speed and all that stuff is very close between the models and not enough IMO to make or break a deal. With my TL almost paid off, there's no way I would go with another car payment. I can't wait for February.

 

If you get the V6 TSX then it's all good.. if you get the 4 cylinder.. DONT DO IT MAN!
I had the 2010 TSX as a loaner when my TL was at the dealer.. I had it for a whole weekend and i tested out the power... it wasn't that bad but i wouldnt choose that over my TL. BUT... i do like all the new technology package on the tsx... such as the ipod plug and it shows the whole ipod control on the navi display..

 

I would always think of the TSX as the TL little sister for the years that the 3rd generation TL was produced. With the newer models though, I don't think of it like that. Maybe it's because I don't like the way the newer TL looks, but I would pick the TSX over the TL too, but it would have to have the V6 otherwise I would look down on it and feel as if it's a downgrade.

As far as a new car and more of a car payment, that is obviously a personal decision that only you can make. Either way, let us know what you do.

i have two munchkins with me constantly and the carseat barely gives you any room.. one is 19 months old and one will be 36 months in november. not enough room in the backseat imo. i was actually about to trade my tsx in for a QX56. by all means i love the TSX, it's a great and treats me extremely well i just need the room.

 

i think your best bet is to get the car repaired properly and run it into the ground ... u may have some buyers remorse if u go from a v6 tl to a i4 tsx ... just my 2 cents

 

Before you talk about getting a new vehicle you need to do get retribution for your TL. Pohanka is providing you a contracted service which is not complete until all of the neccessary work is 100% done.

Subject to color and exterior mods, I have the same car as you. Although I would personally stick with the TL, going to the TSX really isn't a huge deal. Its coming from the same manufacturer, you know what you're getting. If you'd had a '10 TL and were dropping to the TSX you'd be kinda foolish. However an older model TL to newer TSX not that big of a deal. Still loosing slight performance but it'll get rid of that irritating itch.

 

The older TSX has a better suspension then the new one and its lighter.
