I'm thinking about throwing some 1/2 ply wood, cut to fit, in the back spare tire compartment now that there isn't a spare tire to support the carpet liner. I still use my trunk and I don't want my carpet liner to cave/crack in... What did you do back there???
I experienced the same problem when I removed the tire. I left it as is and just made sure to put heavy items on the sides rather than the middle. The liner is pretty tough and can support a fair bit of weight so as long as you're easy on it. I'm betting it will be fine granted you don't put bags of cement or 10 gallons of milk on it.
As I progressed in the TL diet I eventually just gutted the trunk altogether so now I don't even have the liner - just the net which I can use to secure smaller things. The wheel compartment is actually perfect for a few bags of groceries and stuff like that
You could always go that option

What happens when you get a flat tire? Flat bed to a tire shop if it's during business hours? I would say leave the spare tire in there and strip weight from other places on the car. How much can the spare weigh anyway.
i cut the MDF a tad bit wider than the trunk flap so that it won't cave in, it sits perfectly flat.
yup i pretty much did just that. got some MDF and wrapped it in charcoal/black carpet and it's the entire length/width of that flap that folds up in the trunk. worked out wonderfully.

I'm not worried about flat tires. I've gotten 1 flat tire in 24yrs

For the people commenting on why you're taking the tire, GTFO of this thread you sound dumb.
On topic, I put a survivor/first AID kit and a few microfiber towels, QD and leather spray.

Watched a show pushing fix-a-flat that is now tpms safe and they have a kit that includes a small pump. They made mention that car companies are going to start saving money by not including a spare in the future.
I also removed the spare tire.
I have the weather mat plastic liner(accessory) which acts as a small support.
I pay my insurance to have 24/7 roadside assistance.
I call and ask them to bring a flat bed. Get it towed to my house, where I do have my spare.

If you're in to audio, a hidden amp rack or a nice sub location would be ideal...
I like the idea of spraying the tire well with some truck bed liner and throw some supports back there for a hidden tool box.

Instead of getting rid of the car's spare tire, maybe you should get rid of your spare tire. you're better off with reduce weight on the front than in the rear and there's health benefits too.
but if you insist, you could always place the scissor jack where the spare would be with it cranked up so that the liner rests on it (if you decide you want to keep a jack in your car).

This- so instead of taking 15 minutes to change a tire you would rather call triple A and have them tow it, taking hours? Dumb dumb dumb

This isn't some 1990 Civic we're talking about. We have TPMS first and foremost so we know if our tire has a leak. Secondly, if we ran over something, we're shit out of luck anyways. And sorry my AAA doesn't take hours, it takes 30 minutes MAX. Long distance, of course I put back the tire, but you guys make it like it is the end of the world without a spare.
The thread was about the people who don't have it, not why they shouldn't have it.
I still have my spare tire, but I've also squeezed in the following:
heavy gauge jumper cables
personal emergency kit (spare t-shirt and underwear, small water bottle, toothbrush, toothpaste)
paper towels
clean rags
chemical light/flare

If you guys did it to save weight, wouldnt it make sense to remove the trunk cover and linings too? That way you basically put your groceries or whatever on the metal floor, don't need to worry about the trunk cover breaking
Random tidbit regarding not having a spare- if you really had to and don't have roadside assistance, you can use Fix-A-Flat. (Shit works, I've used it with a flat and drove 350 miles to my home with no issues) However, most tire shops won't repair/plug a tire that has had Fix-A-Flat in it for liability reasons. But the cost of a new tire could equal out to be the same as a tow if you didn't have roadside assistance.
Removing a spare tire is retarded. And if you call aaa or caa to tow you home because you dont have a flat your a retard for wasting their time when more people in need actually need their help.
If your that concerned about a 20 - 40 lb weight saving lose some weight or buy a lighter car, not a tl.
Sorry its an arrogant post. But you people annoy me

(Have two motoring plans) It is just good to have options. You still can be on a back road without cell service etc...
I do A LOT of driving and also had AAA with a fully gutted trunk as well until I had to get towed. Found out its only free for 3 miles then you have to pay the rest. Played like 180 bucks for the tow!!! After that I put the spare back and I'll just take it out for autocross events

Remove the spare, carry plug and air pump, that's it.
If you can't plug a tire, just carry the spare.
If you can plug a tire, you won't pay $20 to shop, means you will fix your tire anyways, then just do it there and finish it.
You are in hurry? People take flat tire as an excuse since it doens't occur everyday.
and hoping none of you to get a flat tire on a heavy rain

I'm guessing some of you didn't like essay questions in school. You get partial credit for writing your name and putting something down but you didn't answer the question... Leave no child is really paying dividends

Obviously, I've been on this forum for years and I'm not some kid blasting know-it-all posts here. Yes, I have no spare, yes I run with scissors, yes I walk when it says don't walk, yes I still have my carpet and my flip up mdf board in the trunk... No, I don't take my car on road trips (I take the wife's MDX, ever tried fitting a family of 6 in a TL, do the math), no I don't get flat tires (yeah I said it), no I've never had my wheel fall off (I use the lug nuts), no I'm not going to put the spare back in because of a couple of kids calling it "fucking retarded to take the spare out). I don't hit curbs, I avoid construction sites, and I dodge debris in the road. I'm an excellent driver and I'm going to start my own "offensive driving school" with the motto "Sometime the best defensive and a good offensive" so I can pass fucktard kids who watch one too many geico insurance companies...
I posted a simple question of what did you do with your empty spare tire compartment. If you did nothing to your trunk area (and this is really important), POST NOTHING (see how that works). If you did something constructive, please tell the rest of the class so that others can borrow/steal your ideas (yes, I know stealing is bad but i do it anyway because it adds excitement and I like to see if I can get away with it)...
Now I know why I should have upgraded to the 4th generation TL...

I don't have anything anything covering the whole yet but I was thinking either MDF or thick cardboard box to lay over it. Im sure the cardboard won't be as durable as a MDF board but its lighter!
Personally I have AAA platinum and my first 200 miles are free of charge.
