What cars are people getting into after their TL?
#361
I remember when a fully equipped Accord EX V6 was almost $25k new, but now they're over $30k.
CPO FWD TLXs in my area are about $29k. I haven't really seen any AWD ones yet, so they'll probably be closer to $32k/$33k.

Thanks. Nice Audi.
I was looking at a 2012 A4 Avant..the last year they were made, but couldn't find one with the prestige package.
My brother has the A4 Avant with that package and it's nice.
Everyone upgrading to Audis I see. I was thinking an A4 too, but I really needed something with some space, but no SUV like I said.

I see this a lot and not quite sure why folks feel that way but if you stick with an 02 or 03 and keep up with the maintenance, which isnt any worse than any other performance car, its fine. I do turn my own wrenches for most of the jobs and have some other gear heads to help me but truthfully theres nothing else out there for the money.
For how old & the miles, she looks good. But there are issues.
The front end is all pitted with rocks from highway driving and hitting pigeons in the city.
The paint is wavy in some parts due to previous hits.
There is rust starting to develop around the fenders.
Things were finally starting to add up with replacements. Basically more economical to get a newer car than fix this one. Also, wanted something AWD for the winters up here.
One of my relatives bought the TLX when it came out & it had a tranny issue. She had to bring it back in to get fixed.

Pigeons in my area don't move for cars anymore. They just sit there in the road and I usually end up hitting a few. Surprised there weren't any feathers in the front grill of my car when the dealer looked it over.
Seagulls kinda move but I've clipped a few in the past.
I read about the TLX always trying to find the right gear so that would bug the hell out of me driving thru the city.
I also read Audi reliability is a lot better now and the depreciation isn't that bad. When I first thought about getting a newer car, a used Audi was second on my list, after the Volvo.

I really like the new 2017 Audi A4, but my concern would be reliability and depreciation. TLX SHAWD is great when its not changing gears. Unfortunately gears change often with 9 speed. Had a loaner and when maintaining 20 mph the tranny would hunt between 2nd and 3rd and lunge and jerk all over. I could never buy that vehicle. If it's that bad new, imagine that ZF tranny out of warranty. The 8 speed DCT is probably OK, but I still prefer the driving experience of my 3G TL. The V6 SHAWD would be great if they gave it a proper tranny. Acura royally dropped the ball with the ZF 9 speed.

It's official. I got my loan approved for my CPO 2015 Volvo V60 T5 AWD Platinum today and getting it Friday.
The rate was a little higher than I expected, but still a great APR for 5 years.
I'm going to miss my Acura after 8 years of ownership. Never really gave me issues, but time for a newer car.
Edit: Just a little brag...got 2.04% for 5 years & pics Friday afternoon of it & my Acura one last time

I really really want a manual M2 or Camaro SS, but will probably wait to see the next gen Lexus GS in a couple years.
I can't believe my '06 is still going, though' I just barely passed 100K recently.

My 2005 Acura TL at the dealership getting traded-in. My final pic & drive with it.
Bought it in 2008 with 44,xxx miles on it.
The new car.
CPO 2015 Volvo V60 T5 AWD Platinum Edition with Climate, Convenience, and Technology Packages. Basically missing the BLIS option.
I'm am going to miss my Acura. It was really reliable and never gave me any issues besides wear & tear things.
It still drove great but it was time for a newer car.

On topic though I have been flip flopping on getting a new car for the past few years now. I want something sporty...nothing really grabs me though.
I think my ideal car would be a Subaru BRZ chassis with a new Focus RS drivetrain (6MT, AWD, 350hp). Sadly this car doesn't exist.

Will be very interested to know your feelings about this vehicle in about 6 months. I am also looking for something that is a bit more useful, but don't want a full blown SUV if I don't have to get one. The wife already has one which is enough. I have been looking for wagons and not too many options. Doesn't help that my garage is small and what ever I buy next must be no longer than the TL.
The reason I bought a wagon is I don't need a full SUV as well, but wanted something still car-like with storage. I never liked SUVs anyway.
I think Volvo is coming out with the V40 later this year & I think that's about the same size as the TL.
So far, I love the V60...just wish I got the BLIS package sometimes because the car is a little longer than the TL, so I'm still getting used to the blind spots with this.
I do miss the punch of the V6 when I try to pass cars on the highway....the V60 is a turbo 5 cylinder.
The options for wagons basically are Subarus, VW Jetta Sportwagon, and the Volvos.
I'll post some more outer & inner shots of it too.

Here are pics of my 2015 Volvo V60 T5 AWD Platinum finally.
Tinted it the other week with 35% all around. Legal so I don't get pulled over & can pass state inspections.
Seating position is comfortable and they're typical Volvo seats.
Backroom space is kinda small, but I don't sit back there, so not my problem. Fine for kids, but tall adults may have issues. Also has rear heated seats.
Storage space isn't bad. Whiffle bat there for scale.
It's not as large as other wagons, but it gets the job done.
My dash. Has Road Sign Information with auto high beams and auto wipers on. RSI reads speed limit signs and displays in the center dash. Only works for white speed limit signs apparently.
Center setup. I don't like the vent system and I can't control both temps at the same time. It's always dual climate control. Buttons are along the bottom: Rear headrest come down, heated steering wheel, lane departure system, and crash avoidance. The globe icon is internet, which I don't use.
Steering wheel setup. Nice setup. I don't use the adaptive cruise control.
Navigation look.
Options for the screen
Backup camera. Still getting used to it.

Picked up a 2004 G35 6MT sedan as a night and weekend car. Considered a 6 speed Accord sedan (one popped up on craigslist locally) and a '07/08 6 speed TL/TL-S but really wanted to go RWD. Really balanced car, lighter than the coupe, weight distibution is 52/48, has the sport suspension and sedans tend to be adult driven and a lot less abused than the coupes. One owner car, came with all the service records (he had everything done at the dealer), original window sticker and sales contract.
Already have done the tint, paint correction and Optimum Opti-Coat and the Z-tube. Probably do the plenum spacer, Y-pipe, anti-roll bars.

I still have my 2008 TL, which I will hand down to my kids as their car to use. I purchased a 2014 ACPO RLX Super Hybrid Elite/Advance model. Very much enjoying the car and all of it's technology.

Are you on Offtopic as well with the same name?
The dealership which I bought my Acura wanted to get me into a 2014/15 G35 as well when I was car shopping. I went there first because they were able to get me into a car with my credit history in the past, so I thought I'd visit them to see what they had. They had a Volvo S60 sedan, but not AWD or the V60 like I wanted. One of the salespeople was really pushy with the Infiniti. I just left.

I went with the 4cyl, but it was mainly because I wanted fuel efficiency. The V6 gets almost the same gas mileage on the TL (altho on regular) and i wanted to have some sort of savings if I was going to end up having a car note.
I decided against the touring mainly because it only comes in the v6. In the end though, since I got the EXL with nav and sensing, i'm not missing many features from the touring so I'm satisfied. The main things I would have wanted are the headlights, wheels, and decklid spoiler which can all be bought if I really wanted. Can't swap in a 4cyl tho!
I'm pretty happy. I was also told that the 4cyl exl with nav and sensing was one of the most desirable of the new accords because it is RIGHT under the touring.

Just traded my 2007 ASM TL Type S last week for a 2013 SSM Lexus GS 350.
Test drove the TLX as well, but I couldn't get over the 9 speed, just didn't do it for me.

- My estimate is that it's going to save me about $800 in fuel costs annually, even after factoring in the additional electricity, over what I was paying on the TL, and my average with the TL was 28.9 mpg (6 spd)
- It's nice to only have to do oil changes every year or two. I felt like my oil always needed to be changed in the TL.
- It's incredibly smooth to drive when it's running on battery
- It's much easier to control your speed when you're driving in L on the Volt because you don't have to step on the brake
- The wireless key fob is nice, although I'm sure you can get that functionality in just about every mid-range or higher car these days
- Air conditioning is very strong, especially compared to a gas-burner when you're at idle
- Folding rear seats make it much easier to haul something large or long than in the TL
- No worries about shifting, compared to an automatic where you're always trying to feather the throttle to control shifts (although I really liked the 6 spd)
- The 2014 is rated 38 miles on battery - I'm generally getting 42-43 on mainly country roads, but if you're at 70 mph or above it'll be more like 35 miles
- Since you start out with 40 miles of range every day there's a lot less effort into trying to plan fuel stops (although there's a lot more effort trying to plan trips to avoid using the gas engine)
Downsides:
- Blind spots large enough to hide a 747 (although probably better in the second generation)
- Seats don't have adjustable lumbar support so they're not as comfortable as the TL
- The HID headlights on the TL were really good compared to the headlights on the Volt (not that the ones on the Volt are terrible)
- Default throttle linearization makes the car feel like a slug because all the power is saved for the last bit of accelerator pedal travel, but Sport mode fixes this - although you have to choose it manually each time you start the car
- If you're charging at 120V you manually have to select 12A charging because it defaults to 8A every time
- Fuel tank is only 9.3 gallons, so on a road trip your effective range all-gas is only 280 miles (40 mpg * 7 gallons), which is kind of short compared to the 400 miles I could count on in the TL
Given the chance for a do-over, I'd buy the Volt again. I'm sure the handling is going to get better once I replace the original set of tires with a decent set. At first I wasn't even considering the Volt because I wanted something with a manual transmission (or more accurately, not an automatic transmission) but a few friends recommended it and it impressed me - nothing else I test drove really stuck out.

Put a deposit down on Monday and as of right now I'll be taking possession of a 2015 Audi S5. Been dreaming of this car for a few years now and was going to wait until I had the TL-S for 10 years, but I figured why not now.
Sorry for the huge pic, I miss the last generation of Office Picture Viewer where I could change the pic size.
