what is this bar under the hood?

Hello all. Can anyone tell me what the bar is that runs accross the top of the engine? The reason i ask, is that there are 3 bolts that are loose on each side of it. Thanks for your input.

is it a big thick black bar that runs near the windshield? IF it is, that is called the strut bar, and it holds the chassis and suspension to each other firmly so that the car does not flex.

Yes it is. i was looking at is and it appeared to be secure, however, i just can't imagine why the bolts would be loose.

Those bolts shouldn't be loose. 29 ft/lbs I THINK - best to double check the spec.

IF it is 29 ft/lbs thats about just tight plus one moderate pull on the ratchet (unless you're the hulk, in which case "just tight" will probably do it).

^^

Sorry, looks like they should be 37 ft/lbs.

Check here to make sure I am looking at the right ones - Flange Nuts.

Might as well also check that the bracket at the fuse box and the other bracket on the passenger side are connected/tight as well.
