Went to the track today, numbers inside

My car: as per my signature.

Conditions: 67 deg, slight breeze, good track conditions, humidity? 800 ft elevation (Wisconsin), VSA off, brake-torqued to about 2000 rpms ... 60ft ranged from 2.36 to 2.4

1st run: 15.48 @ 91mph

2nd run: 15.89 @ 91 mph

I figured that if I ran about four more times, I would have maybe hit a 15.2 or 15.3 .. but overall, I did not expect any better than a 15.2 out of my car. It's a real dog.

Sometimes when i accelerate in my neighborhood (long and wide road with no curves, cops, or other vehicles, late at night) i reach 80-90mph real quick, i think much less then 15 seconds

Good thing you have a 5.5G Max on the side, in case you really want to lay some smack down.

Yeah, I'm thinking of taking the Maxi to the track next weekend .. hoping to run mid to high 14's on stock rubber... that thing is a beast. It's too bad I couldn't have the Nissan torque in the TL package.

The difference in time b/w reaching 80mph and 90mph is a good 1.5 to 2.0 seconds... believe it or not.

There is defintely something wrong with your car! Those numbers are straight horrendous. Your 04 should AT LEAST be as fast as your maxima because I was able to take out my friends 04 maxima SE w/the 5 speed auto in my 04 TL from a 40 mph gun.

Have you checked out your IMRC actuator out? I wouldnt be surprised if its broken.

The '04 Maxima hasn't been regarded as very quick at all... in fact, many claim that it's slower than the 2k2/2k3 Maxima (auto and stick).

Are you using the "tiptronic" style shifter on your Auto? Or are you just putting it in normal auto and flooring it?

Don't you mean you went to the strip today. I was hoping to see some impressions of how the TL performed on a road course. Oh well. Can't wait to take mine to Putnam Park and Mid Ohio next summer. Cheers

Regardless, the 04 max picked up 10 hp and a 5-speed auto and which dramatically impoves acceleration vs. an 02/03 auto. The 04 max should run high 14s, and I took out my friends max by 1 and 3/4 car lengths from 40-100 mph.

Anyway, the 04 TL should run high 14s. Your 60 ft. times are REALLY bad which says something about your launch. I think your brake torqueing is not helpful.

Yea....there is no reason an 04 TL should be anywhere near the acclereation of a last gen accord V6....so there is definitely something wrong.

I remember a few years ago I went to the races and raced a last gen AV6 coupe w/ comptech headers, AEM CAI, and HKS exhausts in my stock TL-S and I blew his doors off.

Just like the TL-S, a stock 04 TL should be running high 14s if driven properly.

Man, that must've been a sight to see. Got pics of the accord with the doors flying off?

That would be something else if i did

But seriously, the kid could not believe that I took him out so bad. I remember him saying that now he wanted to trade his car in.

What does your AV6 run and what do you have done to it?

You would've had to break the sound barrier and be within a couple feet for the doors to fly off the hinges. That would be so cool. Now THAT would be a kodak moment at the track!

One of my friends has the exact mods as I do (RS Akimoto Intake, OBX ss headers, Greddy Dual MX, APEX-I VAFC tuned which was useless). He ran 14.8 on a nice cold day up at the track. No one coulld believe it. He ran again and got 14.9 and 15.2 or something like that. I want to run my car after I get this kit taken off though. The girls like it but driving around town this low scares me even though the car looks cool. Now its time to sell this car and get my TL...just waiting on saving up the rest of my money....I hate financing so cash, cha-ching.

btw, everything on my car is for sale including the car itself

Semantics.... when's the last time any TL owner took his TL to a real track??
Unless you have the A-spec and a 6-spd... what the hell is the point? I just wanted to see how quick this TL was.. and clearly, it was not.

BTW. ... I used the "L" to "D" shift out of the hole rather than full automatic, and it automatically shifted me into 2nd gear at WOT .. i couldn't force any more rpms out of first gear using this "manual" shifting mode. My TL-S allowed me to go from D1-D2 on my own .. and if I missed the shift, I would bang off the rev limiter. Apparently Acura designed more protection of this tranny into the '04 design.

2k2... visit the Maxima.org board when you get a chance and search (if you're a paying member) for '04 SE automatic 1/4 mile times... they are in the 14.9-15.0+ range. The new max, though gaining another 10hp/15tq also gained a bunch of weight .. The 6-spd was even slower than the 2k2/2k3 maximas which weighed in around 3200-3300 lbs....

I think my 18" rims contributed to the slower times... my 91mph trap speed is testament to the amount of hp my car is producing, regardless of my ET and my 60ft times. 91mph ain't that impressive. My TL-S ran 15.3 stock at 90mph .. and fully modded and fully broken in I ran a 14.5 (headers/intake/pulley/exhaust/nicer tires).

The Kumho Ecstasa's really gripped the road pretty well...not too much wheel spin... The car just doesn't have much low end torque.

2k2... go run your 2k4 down the strip yourself.. and come back here and report your results. Until then, I am unimpressed w/ the quickness of the 2k4 TL... but I still love the car.

Edmunds Tests rated it at 14.96 @ 90.71 MPH on their performance track with a professional driver...

With numbers like those, my 97 Pontiac has nothing to worry about. I hope you turned the traction control off (VSA)

Is your 97' Pontiac a GTP? I noticed a bunch of GTPers are running in the 12s now, with your basic mods. Gotta love factory forced induction.

Are there any acura dealers that will bolt a supercharger into the TL (and let you keep your warranty)? If so, I may go that route with my wife's TL eventually.

I know with my G35, there are dealers that will install a Vortech/Stillen Supercharger, and warranty the work and engine, as long as they do the install.

Vsa

Believe it or not every run i have made in my TL with the VSA on was consistantly faster than with it off. The VSA does kick in when you start out but it gets the wheels to bite alot faster then you just letting them spin with your foot on the floor. Once they bite the vsa lets up and doest show up again. So altho it defies belief i always leave the vsa on no matter what.

Took Mine To The Track A Few Months Ago With A 3/4 Tank Of Gas And Ran Between 15.2 And 15.4, Your Numbers Are Correct. Fastest Time Was With A/c Off, Vsa Off, Car In Low, Stomp On It Just Before Green, Let Car Take Care Of Firt To Second, Then Shift Up To Drive Just Before Redline.
