Just went to work this morning, was having a smoke and coffee and then noticed an 8" wavy groove smack in the middle of my left door and 2" groove at the same height before the front left wheel.

There is no eveness (jagged wave) to the scratches and the width is what a key would be. I have a black TL 5AT w/ navi that I got about 3 weeks ago (have 1100km on it).

What the f*** is wrong with people?

 

That sucks man!!! I guess them scratching your car is because they are jealous of such an awesome machine. My favorite Saying is F#ck em!! I wish you the best getting the tl fixed.

 

You're not alone, happened to me with same model/color over the weekend. Parked in out-of-the-way spot at movie theater (Lee HWY Theater, Northern VA) in early afternoon - I guess this probably just made the car more of a "target." Came out of movies and found same kind of wavy key groove right over left wheel about 7/8 inches. Had the car two weeks...Same thoughts about what drives people to do this...

 

I've been watching these forums for a while but hearing this pissed me off so much I had to finally say something. First off, I'm sorry to hear about it. The same thing happened to me when I bought my first new car about 9 years ago. Only about two weeks old and I find it keyed from my front door all the way past the rear door. Now I'm ready to buy my new TL as soon the the 05's come out. Still though, since it happened to me once already, I'm afraid it might happen again. Oh and by the way, I drive a 95 GMC Jimmy :bigun2: If you guys think the rattles in the TL are bad, you should hear this POS. One tip though, I tried to touch up the paint myself and the thing looks fugly. If it does happen again. I will definitely get it fixed by a professional. Good luck.

 

Sorry to hear. Good luck in getting it fixed. These people are so inconsiderate out here. No matter what car I have driven I have always been considerate of others. I guess it is too much to expect the same thing in return.

 

damn that is my worse nightmare. i try so hard to keep the car immaculate but there are so many immature a-holes out there who are willing to do this. especially in the city on a friday or sat night. i live in fear everytime i park in public. someone keyed my last car which was black. its shows up like a sore thumb. is the scratch deep? can you see the primer or the metal of the door. depending on how deep it is, you might not have to repray the whole door. i am very sorry to hear about your car and good luck with the fix.

 

Although keying will piss you off, try looking at it in this light, some poor, limpdick, asshole feels inferior and jealous of you and your things HA,HA. By keying your car he is just fessing up to the fact that he (or she) is a pathetic, little useless piece of human excreta!

that wouldn't make me feel better, its a fact that the person who keyed the car was jealous of what he does not have. but still doesn't take the pain away because the car is only a few weeks old. i am not a violent person and i know it is wrong, but if i caught the person doing it at that moment i just might go berserk on his ass.

the cars surface detects a key drag and flames light the guys legs on fire. maybe it could even quickly spray some lighter fluid out from between the body panels to set it off more nicely

you know that in south africa they have security systems for cars similar to what you have described. car theft there is so bad that companies are installing active security systems. the flame thrower is one of the systems as well as a sharp blade that swipes out from underneath the sideskirts that is suppse to amputate the thief's feet. i read abou this 2-3 years ago.

Happened to me two times...
First time was becuase the asshole was jelous that I was going out with this girl that he liked and decided to put a 4 foot key mark in my Jetta while parked outside her house, her mom was just comming home when she saw him doing it, I called the cops and we went to his house, he said that he didn't own any keys, his white-trash parents backed him up. Well, revenge is sweet, since then I have egged his car with about 20 eggs, threw lemons at it with some friends (lol the alarm went off and we had to book it), shot out the window with a BB gun shortly after that... I think that just about took care of the $700 that it took to repaint the keymark on my car and then some. Although I do not condone this type of behavoir in anyway, he really had it comming. I think now a days I would just kicked his like a man. Second, I parked in the inside this gated area where the yhact is docked, I guess somebody didn't like where I parked, so they decided to key the entine length of my BLACK ml320! 2-days before I sold it, I had to give the people I sold it to a $1000 discount, I was pissed! I know who did it too, but I never saw them again... and that is why my car is silver now.

 

Primer is gray in color. Most likely, you're not seeing primer (which is good, I suppose.)

Try touching the scratch lightly with your fingernail. If you can feel your fingernail 'catch' when you pass it over the scratch, there's not a whole lot you can do except take it to a pro.

If your fingernail doesn't catch, you could take care of it yourself with the right products and sufficient skill. Meguiar's Scratch-X comes to mind. However, that's a fairly agressive compound and if you're not sure of what you're doing, best leave it alone and pay for a pro.

that could be the primer, usually its grayish in color depending on the color of the car. take it to a shop and have them look at it. they can do a few things to fix it. either paint the whole door or coupound down the clear coat. touch up paint and compound the door and respray clear. this will be cheaper than painting the whole door. the paint matching is easier because the scratch is blended into the original paint. some people don't like this idea and are more anal and would prefer to paint the whole door.

If you find out who did it, the perfect revenge attack is to pour sulfuric acid (battery acid) over the asshole's car. It will not only destroy the paint, it will also permanently oxidize the underlying metal. The rust that will ensue is unfixable, it essentially totals the body. It also looks rather cool as the paint and metal smoke and bubble!

 

i went to the library today to do my project and when i came out, there was spit on my drivers door, some asshole spit on my car(i guess im lucky they didnt key it) but i parked in the farthest spot there is and god damn people just cant leave other peoples crap alone.

 

Are you sure it was on purpose? Maybe they just sneezed really hard as they walked past your car, and a runny glob of snot found its mark. Just a possibility.

Unfortunately there are individuals that just key cars randomly for no particular reason, just walking along keying anything in their path. Jealousy does not even come into the picture.

 

Sadly, living near Detroit, and owning a "foreign" car, is a daily hazard here.
