weekend+nothing to do=modding tail lights

ok let me know what you guys think. I cleared my tail lights and also painted the turn signal part black instead of leaving it clear. I plan on putting an LED bulb on the turn signal part so that it can be brighter since its painted black but not sure if i like them. so let me know good or bad. oh yeah also forgot to say i still haven't put the clear type s cover over it but just wanted opinions first.

I think the LED turn signal will have low visibility at a distance in sunny, bright weather.

I should of said thanks to JAZEUSTL05 because i used his DIY but the only difference was that i painted the turn signal part black. Here is the Link https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/g-088-diy-clear-taillights-618762/.
i thought the led would be brighter during the day but i think you are right
aztec209 I'll let you know if i end up letting them go bro

They look pretty good. im still debating whether or not to get this done, i just don't want to have any legal issues with them (no red on the rear) i wonder how it would look with a red lens on the very last reflector.

My wifes Lexus RX has clear tail lights from the factory so as long as they light up the right color, I would think it would pass. I know it's not oem but...

All you need is a red reflector to be 100% legal. And if you don't want the red showing up, put some dark tint on it...unless being hit by light, it'll match a black-out job.

The funny thing is, everyone goes bonkers over reflectors (red rear, yellow front)...it's a federal law requiring them, not state or local. Now, there may be some states that have laws that reinforce the federal law, but unless they do, a cop can't write you a ticket (tickets are for violations of state or local laws). This is why instead of asking on the forum people should look up their state's laws for themselves to see what is legal and what is not. A lot of people seem to love to come on here and proclaim something as illegal when it's not; it may be illegal in their state, but that doesn't mean it is elsewhere. There are quite a few things illegal in other states that are perfectly legal here.

import4life - Don't really like the turn signal area blacked out...it would look better (to me) if you hadn't left the chrome trim around it. Regardless, looking forward to seeing them on your car.

But the RX has red reflectors built into the bumper and ours do not - I think that's actually the key difference here if we clear our tails.

Nice concept, I think the turn signals may be dim in comparrison, but some nice brite leds should help keep the turn signals brite enuff.

Cant wait untill someone wants to color match their paint color.
