WDP Mis-match SOLVED!! ---Pics inside

...at least much better than before.

If you don't remember, I made a thread entitled "ATTN WDP Owners! Color Mis-Match?" almost a month again expressing the concern I had for my car's paint not matching. It can be found here for picture comparison: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...light=mismatch

Basically, I picked up a brand new 2007 WDP on 12/21 and noticed the tell-tale color mismatch that so many other WDP (and any TL) owners experience and live with. I was less than pleased about spending 35K+ on a car and not even getting one that was all the same color, so I inquired to the service manager at my dealer to see what they could do to rectify the situation. They told me that it would be no problem to match the color correctly and that they do it very frequently (especially on WDP's). I was quoted 4 days do to it and given a 2006 WDP TL loaner to drive in the meantime.

Many people said that it wouldn't get any better and if they resprayed it that it would only get even worse, but they were wrong. Gillman Acura on the north side of Houston seems like they know what they're doing.

Well... the 4 days rolled by in a flash and naturally the car wasn't ready, but I didn't want to rush them if they were going to get it right. Overall, it took 7 business days of their work until I could pick the car back up and I am satisfied with the results. I am very good at scrutinizing my vehicle and I can still notice a faint mis-match between the back/rear bumpers and the rest of the car, but it is MUCH better than it was before I took it in.

I got the car back about a week or so ago, but I didn't get a chance to take some pictures because of the weather until today.

What do you think? I'm satisfied with the match (although it could be a tad better) but overall it is much less noticeable than it was before hand.

Hopefully, this will give some of you hope that it IS possible to get your dealer to fix your paint. I'm thinking that since I found the mis-match so soon after I got the car, they were more willing to try and fix it. I think it was worth the time away from my car, plus I got to beat the crap out of a 2006 for a week and a half and keep the miles off of my car!

The paint does look very nice and I really like the tint on that car too.

Same here...

Also, I'm glad you got a paint job on your bumpers that satisfied you. I also had the same thing done to my car. I am "satisfied," just like you, but at the same time, I'll always know they're not perfect. I'm assuming you're in a similar boat.

Very nice. Glad to see everything worked out for the most part. Gives me hope that my car won't mis-match too badly.

Nice post 07WDP! I just got my 07 WDP TL 3 weeks ago and has the same color mis-match problem you show on the other thread. I bet all 07 WDP TL has the same problem. I brought this up to the sales rep on the delivery day, and even talked to the service manager, and they both said this ugly fake white peral (or yellow) is very normal and common on WDP becuase of the material is made out of plastic. Now, thanks for your post and I will definitely go back down and get them fix it.

that may be one of the only reasons I didn't get a Type-S

i loved the car and the fact that it had the bigger motor, but i hated the wheels! they should offer some other wheel option besides the normal stock type-s, base TL, and a-spec options currently availiable.

I'll post some more pics of the tails once I get home from the office.

Or worded slightly differently:

man, the type-s would look sooooo much better without the piece of crap rims they come with.

They pretty much all have the same problem, but to varying degrees. Do some searching and you'll find out. I've had a few ramblings about the topic, but I've pretty much exorcised those demons now. My bumpers were pretty bad straight from the factory, but they're "acceptable" now.

The dealer was pretty cool about fixing it without hassling me, but they gave me a crapper TSX loaner that was filthy, inside and out...needless to say I drove that thing like a bat out of hell.

Now that I've noticed and subsequently had my car fixed, I notice that almost EVERY last WDP TL has the color mis-match. It really bugs the crap outta me, but my car is fixed.

Anybody with other colors that have experienced the same type of thing?

Anyone else gotten their bumpers resprayed like I did?

I think a lot of the WDP-ers here have had their paint redone. Most, if not all, of us won't stand for it and feel that Acura should take care of it.

Why would you have a brand new car reprayed? It would diminish the resale value of your car.

^ Yo, man. Read the thread. His paint was mismatched. The bumpers needed to be painted. Same thing with mine (and I'm guessing many others' in here).

read the thread man.

in this case, getting it resprayed quite possibly has increased the resale value.

not for nothing but every single body shop I have ever been to tells me one thing.....paint on plastic never looks the same as paint on metal regardless of what you do to try to match it.... adding or subtracting a lil flake or color i just had a few parts of my car sprayed and the metal parts match the metal parts and the plastic match the plastic...... even the original pieces match the newly painted ones after the car has been clayed. the curing in the paint chemicals occurs differently because of the medium.

The color mismatch was the first thing I noticed when looking at the TL. It bothered me so much so that I didn't get the WDP, which I wanted from the first pics I saw. I couldn't believe that the paint didn't match from bumper to fender. I knew it was because of the metal/plastic. If you look closely, it's on ALL the light colored TL's. I also couldn't believe that on a 35K car, the paint couldn't match. That's why I got NBP!

Looks much better. You have to know the color mismatch is there to be able to notce it now. And even at that it's hard to tell the difference. They did a great job.

This "mismatch" isn't just an Acura thing. This "mismatch" occurs because paint on plastic dries a little bit darker than paint on metal. I also think that the way light hits the rear bumper has something to do with this "mismatch." I've witnessed this on other vehicles including:

1. BMW 3 Series ( Current Generation )
2. Infiniti G35 ( Current Generation and Previous Generation )
3. Lexus ES ( Current Generation and Previous Generation )
4. Cadillac CTS ( Current Generation )
5. Audi A4 ( Current Generation and Previous Generation )
6. Infiniti FX ( Current Generation )
7. Audi A6 ( Current Generation and Previous Generation )
8. And many others ...

There are bigger things to worry about than having a slight bumper "mismatch" problem IMO.

FWIW: I doubt they re-sprayed the bumper. More than likely they blended the paint from one panel to the other so the change in colors is not so obvious. Even if they did repaint the entire bumper panel, blending is standard practice to ensure paint matches.

Looks very good! In my opinion ACURA should replace bumpers, not repaint.

I definitely noticed a paint mismatch on the rear bumper of a white CTS once.

Your repaint looks a lot better... it makes me want to take mine back to get repainted since I bought it two weeks ago... I just hope the dealership will be as nice as yours to repaint mine...

Mine does not bother me enough to deal with it. I have had this color for the last 5 cars and no biggie IMO

A quote like that could lead some to believe that you actually meant that Dragonlord..which in effect, would be borderline treason against NBP!

07WDP, nice ride man! I have a friend that drives a 05 WDP 6MT. She probably would love to do this as she hates the mismatch, but it's a lease vehicle. The colors blend pretty well now on your car. Good look!

Honestly...if the whole car doesn't match on a car I'd just bought, forget about having them fix it, I'd give the damn car back and make them give me either my money back or another color (BLACK) if that was the way I wanted to go
