Water pump

How do I replace the water pump on my Acura TL 2004? I've tried looking it up on google and it always pops up with the timing belt. Do I have to replace the timing belt as well? Sorry if this is a stupid question. I have know clue about these sorts of things

yes, to replace water pump, timing belt needs to come off.

so, you replace them together.

Technically you need not replace the timing belt when changing the water pump, but in reality, when the pump needs to be replaced it is best to replace not only the timing belt but all parts, unless the timing belt service was just performed.

Not sure if you are looking to tackle this yourself or are 2nd guessing your mechanic, but there is tons of info in "the garage." further up on this page. This there'd from the garage may be of some help - https://acurazine.com/forums/third-g...ics%2A-784622/

Not trying to hijack here, but I'm thinking of doing this soon too. My buddy says he can help me out with the water pump replacement, but he doesn't want to touch the timing belt for fear of messing something up (which is fine by me). My question is, should I do the water pump myself anyway, and then have a mechanic do the tb, or should I just have him do both?

Why would you do them separately? Is there currently an issue with your water pump?

Not a stupid question, I asked the same one just a week ago. The water pump is so close to the timing belt and they both require a lot of labor$ to get to the smart owner gets them replaced at the same time. I checked this out intensely before I did mine and infamy glad I did! A fair price for the job depends on where you live. I paid $700 here in S.E. Tennessee. Good luck!
