Warranty Coverage

So my 06 TL currently stands just shy of 45k miles and I've noticed a few problems beginning to arise; most notably the transmission fluid (noticeable clank when shifting into R, fluid looks pretty brown), motor mounts (slight vibration during idle), brake pads, and an inspection of the steering column/alignment.

I was wondering which ones would be covered under our 4yr/50k warranty and which I would have to shell out for before I made the appointment. If anyone has any recommendations on SoCal dealers, that'd be great as well.

Thanks.

How did you get your pads and rotors resurfaced under the warranty when that is a tear and wear problem?

And yeah, the brake pads I had to change them in 12k miles, but thats part of it. My car does a clank when shift to reverse and I'ce seen a lot of comments on the forum that is normal. But beside that im very happy with my Type-S 08 and wont change it for nothing and I know I have a good reliable car if I take care like is suppost to

Theres a TSB out for brembos. My breaks would squeak under very little application no matter what the weather and if there were hot or cold. The dealer said they are not allowed to replace or do anything for breaks under warranty unless there was a new pad out that they could put on the car. That's how they were able to do it under warranty. I also had the shop foreman ride with me so he could hear it too. They also fixed all my rattles for free

They said the pads alone were like 220$ a piece (lols @ that).

He must've got lucky. Everything should be under warranty besides brake pads, tires, etc... Basically wear and tear items. Bring it in and do there warranty check up and tell them some problems and see what they say. Then post back up!

edit: my pads had over 50% life left on them as well. I had them look at the the issue 3 times prior, until I found that TSB.

Good to know it isn't just my TL clanking in reverse. The tranny fluid on my TL is still a little too brown for my liking though; I'll see what the dealership tells me. Better safe than sorry I guess.

So does this warranty checkup cost anything? I know I'll be spending money either way but it'd be weird if I had to pay them $100 just for popping open the hood.

I think its covered in terms of transmission failures, but I'm guessing tranny fluid is considered "wear and tear"

As long as you're under warranty all check ups are free. Shoot, you can bring it in everyday to check it up if you really wanted too. Just "make up" a problem just incase.

That is a VERY good way to waste your time and get your problems completely ignored. No, not all checkups are free, repairs required due to defects in parts or workmanship are covered under warranty. Warranties are there to cover defects in parts or workmanship NOT to be a big warm fuzzy blanket that keeps you free from having to spend any money on your vehicle.

Transmission fluid changes would be a maintenance item, not a defect in parts or workmanship, if it has issues that is another story. Alignments are an adjustment which are only covered for the first 12mo/12k miles, and are only covered one time during that period.

I do not mind at all writing up warranty repairs, heck during these slow seasons they keep you busy, but sometimes people get a bit ridiculous with this stuff. One time I dealt with a guy who had clearly rear ended someone and his bumper was damaged, he proceeded to try and explain to me that his warranty should cover it because it is a bumper to bumper warranty and his bumper is damaged, NO LIE.

LOL sounds like fun. I won't need to make up a problem yet, still some legitimate problems that need to be fixed.

I see what you're saying. I'm not trying to take advantage of the system and drive in and out of the dealership without dropping some money on repairs.

Based on the problems that I listed, can anyone give me a ballpark figure on how much I'll be spending?

About the reverse gear, the consensus seems to be its a normal problem. I'm pretty sure the dealer will say the same but I'll post what they say after my visit.

I haven't noticed a clicking noise; haven't had a reason the steer back and forth quickly yet.

I was being a little sarcastic about bringing the vehicle every day for a check up...

The point was usually and most of the time, check-ups are free as long as the vehicle is on warranty. Why does everyone have bad experiences from the dealer on the forums? :/
