Warning: Redline High-Temp ATF

Earlier today, I have been discussing with another TL owner, AcuraDriver2006, about his experience with Redline High-Temperature ATF. Per Comptech's recommendations when he installed his S/C, he did two drain/fills with Redline High-Temperature ATF, spaced 10K apart, yielding about 65% Redline High-Temp ATF/35% Honda ATF-Z1 in his transmission.

As a result, shifts have been harsh since the usage of this fluid.

The reason is because Redline High-Temp ATF is a Dexron-III/Mercon fluid only. Honda Z1 contains a higher level of friction modification in comparison to a Dexron-III/Mercon fluid. Our owner's manuals specifically state that Dexron-III/Mercon fluids can be used for a short distance, but shift quality will suffer.

Redline High-Temp ATF may certainly be used in the TL transmission, but it requries the addition of Lubegard "Black" Highly Friction Modified supplement, which will increase the level of friction modification in the fluid. You can purchase this additive at Napa Auto Parts for $11.49 under the Napa Part # 7652603. The additive is completely safe and is used by transmission rebuilders nationwide for generating a fluid with the correct dynamic friction properties for Honda and other transmissions requiring a more friction modified fluid. You will need to add 1oz of this additive to every quart of Redline High-Temperature ATF you install.

Just FYI.

Mike

I'll post in that thread...thanks. I don't think I've ever been to the Parts/Performance section.
