Warm...almost hot
I have noticed that driving the TL w/out the AC and the windows open there seems to be an excessive amount of engine heat coming into the cabin...anyone else noticed this?...the temp gage is at 1/2 way point, when I opened the hood I noticed that both fans were working, so is this normal?...not so much noticiable in the morning, BTW the defrost is on, temp set to LO, fan off, all windows open...and when I put my hand under the dash I feel this heat..uhmm and then temp out side around 80 deg.
Thanks, merci, arigato, gracias.

Almost every car forum out there has a post like this. "Why is there warm air coming out of my vents?"
First is that all cars are made to have a little bit of air circulating at all times to keep you from maybe dying of carbon monoxide poisoning. Second is that the "plumbing" for the A/C/heating runs through the engine compartment, and it is hot under there. As a result, the plastic ductwork heats up and passes that heat to the air that goes through it.
You'll notice that almost all cars nowadays (at least those with auto climate control) run the A/C compressor all the time, unless you specifically turn it off. Part of the reason is that those ducts under the hood are warm and the A/C takes care of that.

Actually, the air exiting the dash vents is cooler than most cars. It seems the ducts on the TL are more carefully routed so as not to pick up as much heat from the cowl, the sun-exposed dash area under the windshield, or the engine. You should feel the warm air coming out of the dash vents in the Altima.
Try this. Set temp to Lo. Set fan speed to 3 or 4. Set mode to dash vents only. See if that helps.

Wouldn't it be just better to turn on the Recirc and block out the air altogether? Your temp setting really wouldn't matter since a/c is off - if it's 80 out, there would be no difference between setting the temp at 75 or 70... unless I'm missing something.
When I'm driving with windows down & a/c off, I usually just change the mode to lower vents only, without turning on the fan or setting the temp.

Park the car and leave it running. Turn on the AC, note both fans run. Turn off AC, fans turn off.

^there's a difference between deFROST (heat lines in the rear window) and deFOG (windshield). But I think HEK did mean to say defog... which is possible to do w/o triggering the a/c if you just change the MODE without turning on the ACC.
