Walked a 528
Walked a 528
Going home today I noticed a nice white 528 dropped on stocked wheels weaving in and out of traffic and decided to follow him from a distance to see if I can get him. We both take get on the main highway ( rt 1&9 express by the airport for you nj guys) and go at it. We hit at 40 once we on to the highway and I was behind him chillin in 3rd to till about 105 at 6500 rpms once I put it in 4th and passed him it was like he was standing still I got up to 120 and he was about 4-5 cars behind me flashing his high beams on me
Been dying to catch a 5 series, I want a 530 because they are supposed to be more of a challenge.

I just saw the new 550i yesterday in the parking lot at work.... looks identical to the 545, but obviously with the 5.0L instead of the 4.5L.. Damn that thing must move!!
I wouldn't think a 5 Series would be something to worry about until you get to the V8s.... 540i, 545i and 550i. The 528i or 530i shouldn't be much of a challenge..

That is a nice stretch of 1-9 when it is all cleared out. (I used to transport Hertz rental cars in that area on early Saturday/Sunday mornings....nothing like the sight of 160hp Taurus/Sable rental cars racing on the highway.
) Anyway, the 528i should be easy pickings for a stock TL-P and simply no contest for a TL-S.
As far as the E60s go, the new 530i has the "255hp"version of the N52 which gives it some respectable performance: mid-6 0-60 times and a governed topend of 150mph. (BMW USA) But it is far short of the N62B44 (325hp) and N62B48 (360hp) of the 545i and 550i, respectively.

I don't think I can mess with that without getting some serious low end work. V6 Acuras suck on the low end it's so annoying. Looking at RL cams to fix that problem

...do not sell the TL-S too short. It should be able to more than hold its own against the 530i at highway speeds. When it comes to lowend though (read: standing starts), you are correct though.

After having driven the 545i and the 3G TL (both AT), I can state with confidence that a 545i AT should make quick/easy work of a 5AT TL in the same way Platano took that 528.
That N62B44 has such a wide powerband that it makes my VQ35DE powered Maxima feel like a torqueless wonder.
