i am assuming that you are referring to aftermarket vtec controllers. its simply a device that overrides the factory vtec settings. there are 2 intake cams on the 3.2 engine when the rpms hit 4700 it switches to the second cam. the vtec controller will override this and will switch to the second cam at whatever rpm you set.

I thought that these were already optimized as the 1st cam is better for low end power and the 2nd for upper? WHat would being able to be with 2nd cam at say 2000 RPM help with?

it wouldn't help but the vtec is optimized for both performance and fuel efficiency. having the vtec activated too early might do more harm than good when set at 2000rpm. but say setting it to turn on at 4200rpm might help with performance but hurt fuel economy. the vtec in the TL is a very basic one because there is only 2 settins on/off. so the 4700rpm vtec point might not be the best point as far as performance is concerned.

I've heard from Acura themselves that i-VTEC is better than VTEC, I know one is for DOHC and one is SOHC. Why wouldn't they be able to inegrate i-VTEC into the TL or at least optimize the VTEC in ours to "perform" in this sport sedan?

iVTEC is for engines with DOHC, the TL has a SOHC and thus does not have the extra cam to adjust the exhaust valve. only the intake valve on a SOHC vtec engine is managed. ivtec is able to adjust both the intake and exhaust valves.
