Question VSA On/Off?

Is the VSA suppose to be on all the time? My dealer told me that you can turn it off when the road is dry, and only need to turn it on during rain or snow. However, by default VSA is on when you start the car, so that doesn't make much sense to me?

Does VSA affect handling and performance during norman weather condition? And should it be on only when during rain or snow?

Your input will be greatly apprecited !!!

VSA is supposed to be on all the time under normal driving conditions.

For performance driving, like at the track, VSA should be off.

VSA affects handling and performance when the tires slip and is not necessarily dependant on weather conditions. For example, an aggressive launch on dry pavement will cause the VSA to activate and apply the brakes to limit wheel spin. In extreme cases, the VSA will also use the drive by wire throttle to reduce power output from the engine to limit wheel spin.

Just turn it off when you get in and its dry out side. If you get on it hard it will kick in and slow you down. It sucks. For the rain and snow it is not a bad idea to leave it on.

Does the VSA also kick in to limit torque steer on the 6MTs?

Only if the tire is slipping. Torque steer is more of a pull and not a slipping of the tire. Torque steer is due to the unequal length of the drive shafts coming out of the tranny. If it did you would see the little ! in a triangle.

Thanks.

I looked around and here's the bit from the Acura press release on the 06 TL:

For 2006, Acura has taken steps to reduce torque steer in TLs equipped with a manual transmission. When the TL is in first or second gear, input from gear position, speed and steering angle sensors is used by the ECU to reduce power during acceleration, thus reducing torque steer. In first gear, torque can be reduced between 13 and 27 percent at full throttle, while in second gear, torque is reduced between zero and 10 percent. Torque output is reduced proportionately based on steering input--the larger the steering angle, the greater the reduction in torque. For those desiring maximum possible acceleration switching off the VSA also eliminates this torque reduction. This steering enhancement allows the TL to maintain the sporty, fun-to-drive character while providing more precise steering control.

I normally don't even remember the VSA switch but on my drive back to school today on back roads, I turned the VSA off and I have to say that unless I imagining something, the car felt A LOT better. It just seemed more responsive and less like it was being held back. I will definetly be driving witht the VSA off more frequently now.

funny, the only time i find myself shutting it off is in the snow

seriously, with the 6MT, getting out of a snowbank with VSA on is no fun

I leave it on all the time, never know when you'll need to make an evasive manuever in Atlanta.

At least, I agree as to the statement about getting out of a snowbank not being fun. Unfortunately, I forgot to try turning off the VSA when I got stuck—I was busy concentrating on not hitting the vehicles on either side of me or the rock wall across the car park behind me.....

When I drive, I ALWAYS! have VSA off, the car definitely feels sportier with it off. Shifting and steering is definitely more tight. I also read that it can help for better gas milage with it off.

I always suspect that VSA is constantly lagging the car.

My guess is the "flashing triangle" only shows when there's severe intervention.

I always wondered if VSA ends up saving tires, the clutch, and other wearable items in the long run?

Anyone else know if this is true?
