The only thing I don't like is when the VSA light goes off. The first time I saw it flicker I thought it was the Check Engine light. Freaked me out.

Do you disconnect your airbags too before you drive? Seriously, it's a MAJOR safety feature, leave it on.

I always disable it when I'm about to get in a straight line acceleration contest.

If it was THAT major, would there be on "off" button? Many cars with stability control have the option of turning it off when you're doing spirited driving.

i was wondering what the VSA actually does and how you turn it on and off, because i see the buttom all the time when i adjust my mirrors. It says "VSA off" so that dat mean if i push it, its off? and if i dont its just on all the time?

It's not unsafe to turn it off. And comparing it to air bags is just plain silly. Sounds like you need a Volvo so you can be even safer.

VSA is constantly on..and when you push the VSA button..it turns it off and you'll see your VSA light on your dash come on.

When the VSA light on the dash is turned ON(lit constantly), your traction control is OFF whcih means you can burn rubber through 1st gear..... when the light is not continuously ON on the dash, the system is ON and will control your traction..

make sense??

.. lemme re-phrase. VSA is when you first turn on your car..and by you pushing the VSA button, it turns off VSA and the VSA light on your dash comes on to notify you that VSA has been turned off. Press the VSA button again and it will turn back on VSA while the light on your dash will go off indicating you have turned back on VSA.

I almost always have it off if I'm actually "driving" the car. Its faster, feels better and for me I have much more control.

although i agree that its a nice safety feature the option to turn it off is nice. if you wanted to do a straight line acceleration without the aid of vsa this would allow you to. but if you are driving "spiritedly" having it on will not really impair the performance. remember it kicks in when there is a loss of traction and the car is about to go out of control. if you drive the car well to the edge it should still not interfere. but besides getting the most performance out of the car it also helps in snow to have it off when you want to "rock" the car out of a jam. sometimes the vsa will over assist when you are stuck in snow.

The TL blew away the Volvo in the latest crash tests....

Again I'll have to disagree. I feel the car/throttle/traction MUCH better with it off. If I want power to the wheels, I want it NOW...especially if I'm on the edge of traction.

So far I have felt very out of control with VSA on in the corners and very much prefer it off.

But hey, that's me and I have no trouble with drifting on all four wheels. And in those instances I absolutely must have control of my throttle/traction.

I was driving rather spritedly on the way home from work and kept thinking "whats wrong? she feels floaty".

Looked down and the damn VSA was on.

Heck, I had no idea what VSA was doing - I can't wait to go out and turn it off for a while.

Excellent way to retire my EL-42's early! :lol2:
