Visibility at night or rain with 5% Tint?

OK, so I am probably going to get a 5 or 10% tint put on my car. I'm a bit worried about visibility at night or during rainy days. Ppl with tints (around 5%), do you have visibility problems at night or during the rain?

in places with no lighitng or not a lot of lighting it s gona be hard to park. it takes getting used to i have had 10% on my cars before now i have 15% on my 03 TL-S. IMO 15% is just perfect.

I have 35% and when it is raining AND dark out I have trouble seeing when making turns especially in dark parking lots (if it's just raining or just dark it's fine) so I could only imagine how bad it would be if you had 5%

Every car that I've ever owned has had either 5% or 15% tint and now my 07 TL-S has 5% on it. With 5% tint on a rainy afternoon, nice sunny day, or at night on well lit streets you should not have a problem seeing. The down side of having the 5% tint is at night on dark roads it is difficult to see out the side windows for any hazards. Another thing to take into concideration is that you run the risk of being pulled over by the police for having the dark tint.

I have had 15% on all of my cars, it is difficult to see when making turns at night, and reversing. But after a while you get used to it. or so i think so

but it makes the TL look soooo much nicer

just my opinion

I'll have to agree with this one, after having the 5% and 15% on my cars, the 5% does look awesome on the car.

As long as it looks good... cleaning a deer out of your grill can be a bitch though.

I have 5% all around and the only small nuisance I have with it is parallel parking at night on a rainy day.

Other than that, I love the feel of it inside. It feels like your in your own little spaceship and no one can see you, especially because of the way the gauges in the TL are set up!

OK, my understanding of tints may be unclear and my question may not reflect my concerns. A friend just told me that 5% tint actually means 95% opacity which is want I TOTALLY DO NOT want. Is this true? If it is, that's NOT WHAT I WANT. I want a light tint so as not to have visibility problems from within the car regardless of weather conditions.

I believe 5% means 5% light allowed through, so yes it's the darkest tint out there. You're probably looking for 35 or 40.

The percentage means the amount of light that is able to be seen through the tint, the lower the number the darker the tint. If you want light tint, then i would suggest something around 20%-35% tint.

Are you sure you got 20%, I had 15% on my 06 TL and had no problems at all seeing at night. Also a relative of mine has 20% on his G35 and it looks clear as day when you look out the windows at night.

5% tint means that only 5% of the original light will pass through. Meaning, it will block 95% of the light coming in.

I currently have 22% (according to the cop...) which is darker than the legal limit of 35% here in Hawaii. Bought my car used with the tint already installed.

You may want to check what the legal limit is in your City/County/State.

I have absolutely no problem seeing out in the nite, in the rain, or both. The only time it seems dark is when someone behind me has bright lights, but that is a function of the auto-dimmer.

On a car i once had, i put 5% on all the windows and 35% on the winshield. At first it was really difficult to see expecially in the rain.... i got used to it after a while... but it was still difficult. i would get 20% but i don't want to get harrased by the police

OK, I see. Thanks.

Can't believe I was asking about visibility with 5% tint which as has an obvious answer...lol. I'll be surprise if I can see through that in the day far less the night. Well since percentage more represents the transparency, I'll actually go with something higher than 35%, but we'll see.

With my supposed 22% it looks practically clear to me.

edit: I once had 4% (measured by safety check station) and it was a bitch seeing out in the nite.

I think that tint makes cars look classier...im debating wether to go with 35% or 50% rite now..im gonna tint it in spring time but here its ILLEGAL im pretty sure any kind of tint..so thas y im thinkin 50% cuz there is less chance to get ur balls busted!

as far as the 5%..i valet..n i valeted a benz with what seemed to be 5% n it was def hard to see cuz it wasnt that well lit of a spot i was parking in..so i would never go that dark..plus unless u know someone..ull get pulled over n given 5 day tag i bet with 5%.
