I know it must stand for Vehicle Identification Number but what do the numbers/letters mean? :smackhead

 

Each part of the VIN means a different thing that helps identify the vehicle as an individual. I can't remember the exact sequence, but the first digit identifies the country of origin, then the manufacturer, the make, the model, the GVWR and so on down to the individual car number. I used to work at an insurance company where they had software that could identify what kind of vehicle it was from the VIN. Useful for when people try to tell you that they're driving an F150 when it's really an F350.
