Vin# Question - 6 speed

Anyone know what part of the VIN# signifies the 6speed trans? Our local dealers have LOTS of TL's on their site, but nothing on their website that identifies which transmission the car has.

Thx.

It will be the 7th and 8th digits, as shown here:
7th digit: 5 for 6 speed, 6 for 5 spd. Automatic (kind of backwards)
8th digit: 2 for A/T, 5 for 6 spd. M/T, 6 for 6 spd. M/T with hi-per tire option

Thanks! I tried searching before posting using "VIN", but nothing came back. ??

Now, I know what to look for 55 or 56.

I went to two different dealers to check their online inventory about 75 - 100 TL's listed on each site. Thanks to my new found knowledge I was able to browse the VIN #'s. Now assuming the cars are in fact different from one dealer to the next, I found no less than one 6 speed. I can't believe there was only one. I never knew how few manual trannys there are out there...

YUP IMO Manual Trans is always way to go, unless you have a wife that doesn't drive stick. All auto trans drivers are selling themselves short. Yeah I've said it!

Well, actually my wife is buying the car whenever she decides what to do with her 1990 240sx. We really would like to keep it so I could turbo it etc ...... and the fact it only has about 100K miles and is in GREAT shape , but that would mean leaving one of the three cars outside in the elements.

She ONLY wants a manual transmission car.
