Vibration??

Hey guys,
I've had my ABP TL auto for about 1 month (1000 miles). I'm beginning to notice an annoying vibration throughout the car at like all speeds (most noticeable at around 50mph and at around 70mph)...but noticeable all over. I can't remember if I had this type of vibration when I first got the car. Is this normal? Thanks in advance.

No. Any chance it could be tires? do you "feel" anything stemming from the engine/tranny? If you put the transmission in neutral, do you still feel the vibration?

There is a well-known vibration issue with the Turanza EL42 tires. Do you by chance know when your car was built? The issue was more common on the earlier bulds than on the later ones.

I tried this. Putting it in neutral doesn't produce any noticeable vibrations.

My VIN is 19UUA66224A057604. It was built during the last week of June '04.

It could be lugging a little. The shift programming drops it into higher gears at pretty low rpm to save gas. Since it downshifts so readily, there's very little impact on performance.

Set it in cruise while vibrating with the shifter in manual mode. Then drop it a gear without changing speeds and see if it gets smoother.

cpurick, sorry for my lack of knowledge, but what is lugging? And, so you're saying that it's somewhat a normal trait? Thanks. I'm just trying to get the facts b/f confronting my dealer about it.

My car always has this so-called "lugging", "vibratin", or "resonance of exhaust", at 1500 RPM and 50-55 MPH with 5th gear, since Day 1.

You could say "lugging" is to pull something with difficulty and effort due to its its heaviness. Try this in any manual transmission vehicle, when your RPM is low (1k-1.5k) in high gears, you will feel it. Our 5AT is used to upshift early as cpurick described above.

If we talk about 5AT, 5th gear with 50 MPH is around 1400-1600 RPM, and 70 MPH could be around 2000-2100 RPM. Usually, you could feel this most between 1400 RPM - 1800 RPM.

Better tires may help absorb this "vibration", but so far there is no way to completely eliminate this yet.

FYI, I used to drive at 4th gear in this particular range as other ppl do.

hey,
i got some new tires on mine. no vibrations what so ever. before i did so, i rotated the turanzas and noticed that when i rolled them across my garage they would wobble. not one tire... all 4 of them. strange. but it was easy for me to see the source of my vibrations.......
hope this helps.

To atom_smasher;

Wow, not good. When did you buy your TL? Mine are fine with dead-on tracting and very balanced.

God Lord, my typing is getting bad. That was supposed to be dead-on tracking.

Wow...I feel the vibration on the right side of the car...it's fine on my side. I'm gonna bring it into my dealer this week so that they can hopefully balance it or fix it.

Tires or resonance can cause what you are feeling. But you should be smooth at 70 MPH. If not, it's the tires. Acura has no fix for the 50 MPH / 5th Grear "exhaust resonance". Shift program is too conservative to save gas. Apparently the MDX also has this issue only worse. Supposedly, they are trying to fix the MDX, I don't know that we'll get any "fix".

I do feel some slight low order vibrations at all speeds in my car. I feel like the motor mounts are almost too tight or something. But it seems to be normal, the vibrations are very faint and I'm just really picky. Good luck with your vibration but it's either normal or the EL42's. Switch your tires out as soon as you can and your problems will be gone! Bridgestones blow, I went with Dunlops. Others have been happy with Michelin$. Or try Goodyears.
