Thumbs down Vibration.....

Hey everyone,

Well my new auto TL with 250 miles seems to have chronic vibration. Note, this does not seem to be related to my 0804 Turanzas as this constant vibration occurs when the car is idle, and even in neutral. it is a very constant pulsation almost of the steering wheel and I can definately feel it in the seat. Regardless this is going to the dealer ASAP.

Does it vibrate when the car is in neural?

If it does it’s the engine. Engine mounts or timing.
If it doesn’t then it might be the transmission.

Yup in neutral it vibrates, shit man when I testdrove before I paid I felt nothing. This morning it was awful i felt like i was sitting in an old school bus. Plus i am getting a rattle from the glovebox region. Furthermore, I think I may have flatspots when i was taking a ramp i felt the front driver wheel kind of jumping. Either way its time to make an appointment, luckily Los Gatos Acura is well known for their service.

you'll never get those vibrations fixed, sorry to tell you. My TL-S did the same thing after 10,000 miles... my TL ('04) does it too ... it's the way the car is built, nothing the dealership can do will correct it. The best thing you can try is aftermarket tires...

I think this boils down to whether or not mine is an isolated case. Does anyone else here have this problem? If so can you decribe what yours is and when / where it occurs. I am pretty sure this is not a tire related issue because it happens when the car is not moving too...

What fixes are there that the dealer could do? If the procedure is huge would dealers give a replacement?

The more important of the 2 is that the car "shakes" when no gear is engaged which screams engine mounts or the idle is too low.

If you give it a little gas when the car in neutral does the shaking go away? Did you put the right grade of gas in?

Re: Vibration.....

Ryder,

There is a known issue with the 2004 TL known as "exhaust resonance" as described by ACS. Do a search for it on this forum and you will see several threads on "exhaust resonance" and "1500 rpm". A lot of people have it, but then keep in mind that
a) it diminishes greatly with time (mine was practically gone after about 60 days)
b) you learn to live with it

I had it, too, when my car was new, but now after 5800 miles I can barely feel it, and even then only because I know it is there (or used to be there). It used to happen at around 1500-2000 rpm, regardless of what gear I was in (even neutral). It's an exhaust design "feature". ACS says they "may" address it in the 2005 model year, perhaps, but they also pointed out that this is not a flaw or a safety concern. It's a design feature

Either way, I'm happy with my car otherwise and the practically gone by now exhaust resonance no longer bothers me even a tiny bit.

I hope this helps. Happy driving!

Same here ... vibration at 1500-2000 RPM, only 100miles so far ... hopefully, the vibration will go away after '60 days'

that could be the exhaust harmonic problem that has been discussed. its said that at around that rpm the harmonics in the exhaust will cause vibration.

I called Los Gatos and they said that I should wait until the break in period is up. If the problem still persists after or if it starts to get even worse, he said to bring it in. At least they are not saying this is 100% normal, and are willing to look at it.
