vents

I just noticed that when I put the heating/cooling in the up(vent)/down(feet) position, air only comes out the side vents and not in the middle. Is this normal, or is something wrong? In the vent only position air comes through both the side and middle.

I noticed the same thing the other day. Not sure why this is.

It's normal. The "up" is the defroster ducting and the "down" is the floor heater ducting. That position just simply splits the air routing.

There are four positions to the mode selections. The reason the above is happening is you are pressing the mode button once, thereby getting the defrost mode, with a picture of the defroster icon and a down arrow. This will send air to the windshield and side windows for defrosting.

If you want air to come out of all the dash vents and the feet vents, press the mode button 3 times so the right arrow and down arrows are displayed.

I have never in my life done this before but I will refer you to the owner's manual, page 112, for a description of all the available mode selections.

I thought that is what I had done. Defroster icon definitely not in view.

You should feel some air when right arrow and down arrow are both showing. It is less than you are used to in auto mode so maybe you didn't notice, or maybe your air flow is restricted and should be checked.

When defroster icon is present or only down arrow shows-no air in center vents.
When only right arrow shows-full air flow, same as when on auto
When down arrow and right arrow show-modified air flow, somewhere between no air and full air flow when on auto or right arrow only showing

Thanks,
In any case, I now know what should be happening. If it isn't off to the shop.
