Vehicle Vibrations

Are the latest build AT5's still exhibiting some vibration at the 50/60mph period? Am considering a purchase this week of an AT5 built in July.

plain and simple, even the reformulated EL42 tires suck... you're better off working out a deal with your dealer to swap out the tires for something better.. like Michelin Pilot Sport A/S's

On first glance, one would wonder why cTLgo would write about tires when the question was about the transmission vibration at 50/60mph, but there is a correllation.

I had the vibration at 60mph, and sometimes put the SS in 4th gear to get rid of it, becuase it was so annoying. But then I got my Bridgestone LS-Z's, and was amazed that the vibration was gone, gone, and gone. Never felt it again.

Others may still have this vibration who have changed tires. Some say it is exhaust resonance.

The best thing for you to do is to carefully inspect your prospective purchase, especially the tires, and then drive it to determine if the vibration is there. Not everyone had it, even on early builds with the original EL-42's, so you will just have to see for yourself.

Bought my TL in July- absolutely no vibrations in the 50-60 mile per hour range, or any range for that matter.

dwcolt & 92NSX, let me drive your cars... Some ppl think that so-called "vibration" is just "noise" or "normal" sensation at 5th gear. IMHO, everyone has their own acuity and adaptation to vibration. (Some cars have slightly more vibration... others are having less...)

I was test-driving friends' 57xxx & 59xxx 04TLs recently, I agree "vibration" isn't so obvious as it's on my car, but I could say it's still there. (One of owners couldn't feel the thing until I mentioned it, and he thought it's "normal".)

Another friend and his boss have early build 04TLs, too. They cannot feel it and don't care whatever it is.

I am a FREAK when it comes to noises, sqeaks, rattles, etc. My wife will attest to that. I hear things and feel things that only a trained person can. My dad is a Honda and Ford master tech and only he can hear the things I hear in cars.
I will make it a point to try and listen more closely and see if I do hear it.

I have an early-build TL and don't really have a vibration, either. Of note to blunose: The 56k-VIN car I drove in July didn't have it, so you should be OK.

OK... bad luck for me. And, sorry guys (especially dwcolt & 92NSX) if I cause any harm to you guys.

neuronbob, I have to drive your A-Spec suspention TL next time I stop by Cleveland again. Have to.

I remember yours was built almost at the same time as need4spd's, but what big difference!

I agree with 92 NSX, my TL(build date 7-26-04) has NO vibrations(tires are the later series EL 42’s). It seems Acura has address most of the early build problems some where in the late May early June time frame. I’m very pleased with this super quite car.

my 63xxx car has no vibrations at any speed...and I have traditionally been hyper-sensitive to that stuff. I say buy with confidence, but be prepared to deal with some issues (for me it has been poorly made/fit trim and a wind whistling around the passenger window).

Tell you what- come on out to SF and you've got yourself a deal!

My last car was a Lexus ES300 so believe me, I've been pampered in terms of a smooth, vibration free ride. So far the TL has not disappointed.

As #9 post said...

I still wish to test-drive you guys' cars... dwcolt, I'll remember what you have offered to me. SFC isn't too far away...
