I trust all of your opinions, so before I make a purchase tomorrow I wanted to run this by those of you that are willing to respond I really appreciate your feedback. I found a really nice TL with NAV 2008, garage kept one owner, barely any scratches dings clear-cut in great condition, no rust,well-maintained 116k miles on it ..all service is done, timing belt water pump we’re done at 100k, older guy under its whole life.. I have them at 9200 out the door. I feel as though that’s high, but at the same time you guys all know the used car market right now and I don’t want to lose out on this car cause I continue to try to talk them down. Would you say the car is worth that? Even the robbers around the sunroof windows etc. are in great shape no dry rotting aging etc. Kelley blue book has this car at a max 7900 as you can see from the picture below that’s that’s priced with navigation etc. I guess my question is you can’t go off of Kelley blue book right now! I don’t wanna miss out on the vehicle especially when I looked at several others that are showing their age, the car is 13 years old at this point. Am I an idiot paying 92K for this car that’s out the door obviously I still have to pay taxes when I get it back to my state! Thanks for any insights and opinions greatly appreciate it
I’m sorry typo above KBB Max is $8700. I just don’t know that KBB is taking into account the current used car market inflation values on everything yet....
Almost very car is advertised as in "great condition."
Unless you take it to a shop and literally see that the paint is close to flawless (PPF/washed its whole life, minimal swirling under very bright lights, checking for paint uniformity with a paint thickness meter) and the interior is close to mint (did you check under the seat and see if the floor carpet is fully cleaned/maintained in all the crevices?) and the under-carriage is also close to mint (check ALL joints/rubbers/seals/etc.) then MAYBE it could be worth close to $9-10k. A base 08 TL with 110k miles is nothing that special
But I highly doubt this car is truly in "great condition" because there are a LOT of things to be looked for before it can command anywhere near that price for a 13 yr old car.
The car is as close to flawless as can be for a 13 yr old car. That’s my holdup 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️. I agree it’s a tad high, but expensive maintenance as were just done on it etc.grrrrrrrr

Well, maybe. There are a LOT of things on these cars which can be expensive, in fact, even more expensive than a timing belt service. I bought my 2006 TL, also in extremely good condition and also with about 114,000 miles on the clock, back in 2017, a year later I had to put $5,000 into it in required and preventative maintenance, and before you ask, the timing belt service had been performed just before I bought the car..

That sucks, what added up to 5K in maintenance that did not include the timing belt and water pump service? Just out of curiosity
I’d prob offer them 8k and see where they go. I have to say that yes there could be some items that need addressing down the road, or now. But still a great vehicle with relatively normal miles for the year.

I already tried to talk them down,, which I’m very good at doing so I bought and sold many cars. They will not budge. Also doesn’t help that they just listed the car on Thursday. So they haven’t even been trying to sell it for long paraI think they know that they will get what they’re asking for the car because of the condition and maintenance history. I guess what it comes down to is so I trust the 116 thousand miles concern me on the car if it’s been very well-maintained?
These cars are well known for easily reaching 300,000+ miles by simply keeping on top of maintenance. Granted maintenance isn't exactly cheap for these cars, but hey, how many cars are rock solid at 200,000 miles AND have cheap maintenance? Probably very few.
So I did a 4 hOur round-trip today for this car only to be completely disappointed as when I got there and drove the car when cold, the trans ( prob torque converter) made a slight whining noise on acceleration . It went away after the car got warmed up but absolutely early signs of transmission failure. Rest of the car was absolutely mint condition. Totally disappointed. Thank you all for your input. Will continue my search.
To be fair, some TLs' have made that noise since new. I probably would not have worried about it, as long as it was shifting correctly.
However, I can understand that if you're paying you dollar, you want to ensure you don't have to drop major money anytime soon.
Funny you say that because I almost still bought the car it was in that good of shape. and they did shift perfect. Zero issues. But when it was cold the first five minutes of driving it definitely made the transmission wine sound very faint not loud yet, but it was definitely there And almost completely went away once the car is warmed up and drove around for a mile or two.. New transmission is $2500, on top of 9K for 116 K car? That’s why I left without the car.
