Trade-in value for TL 2008?

Guys,

Where can I find an estimated trade-in value for TL 2008 w/o navigation? Most of the dealers I went to told me that I can buy a new TL 2008 for $28,500. They said that Acura offers $2,500 incentive due to the release of new model in 2009.

I'm trying to trade my car in and the most I can get for it now is $26,000! I don't understand how can a car like Acura drop it's value by $5,000 in 8 months

Any suggestions? I'm confused ...

Thanks!

Basically, the moment you drive off the lot, the car is no longer new, therefore it is no longer valued as a new car. Used car values automatically take a hit. Cars also generally take their greatest depreciation hit during the first year. Additionally, the 2008 TL is part of a model that is on its last legs, which means they have started offering heavy discounts on them, which drives the prices down even further. Finally, dealerships try to suppress trade-in value as much as possible to try to maximize their profit. Combine all those factors and you will see why the value falls so quickly.

I made a mistake of buying the car instead of leasing.

You would probably be making a 2nd mistake if you traded in a car so soon after buying it.

Yes, I know, I just wanted to confirm if the incentives that every dealer is talking about do exist.

recently bought an 08 TL - S, yes the incentives exists, i think you can get a brand spanking new TL for under 30k now pretty much plus 48 months 0.9 APR or 60months 2.9 APR

Trade in on new cars sucks no matter what brand, you need to do private sale. Try craigslist or Autotrader.com I sold my 07 after 8 months on craigslist with 11K miles and got $31,500 for the navi model. Sold my 06 on autotrader after 8 months in 3 days and sold my 08 Type-S on Autotrader for $33.9K last month after 7 months and 8k miles in 1 day. Oh yeah I am sick and I went and got another new Type-S for $33.2K (I was going to get a G35, but I just missed the Type-S too much after 2 days...).

Hmm.. didn't you lose money from the extra taxes that you have to pay again?

yes and now, basically I go by what my car payment is. I actually paid about $1000 less OTD on this one than last one. and factor in .75% less interest rate and my car payment is actually $12 a month cheaper than last car. I look at is as a perpetual lease on my terms, I sell when I can get what I owe on them and then buy another car. As long as I have no out of pocket and my car payment is same I am good. Been doing this since 04, drove 04, base TL, 06 navi, 07 navi then 08 Type-S and another 08 Type-S. With the 07 I decided my car payment coudl go up a bit since my payment has been the same for last 7 years so adjusted for inflation it is only a few bucks more than I have been paying last 7-8 years. The TL makes this very doable since they have incredible resale value.

I'm going to try to sell in private. What is the resonable private sale value for TL 2008 without navi. It has 8000 miles.

Thanks

You will probably take a big hit. The car is too new and it is not listed in the used book values yet. And also with the incentive that you can get 08TL brand new cheap now, you will have even harder of a competition. Any particular reason why you want to sell the car?

Try Carmax...sometimes (raaarely but it happens) they can give you a good price and you don't have to buy a car from them.. I know cause I used to work for them.

No dealer or Carmax is going to give you what you need on a <1 year old car, private sale or totalled in a wreck is only way to get decent money. The probelm you have right now is if the buyer is aware of the $2K rebate from Acura and that most dealers are selling at about invoice then you are competing with a $31-$32K new navi car. and probably $29k new non-navi. You can try advertising it for $29,900 and see if you get any bits. There will be people that don't know about the rebate and don't know how to negotiate on a new car.
