I just ordered my V600 for 199.99 from AT&T and should have it in 2 days. I'm sending back my Nokia 6820-(no signal, battery, or roam indicator displays on the MID), still under the 30 day return.

Just an FYI... the battery does not display for the V600 as well. I don't know about the roaming indicator.

Alright. I went to the AT&T store. I'm NOT getting this phone. Apparently AT&T has 2 network types, the V600 using the newer one. The newer network is quite limited nationwide still and there are known blackout areas a few miles from my house. So warning to all of you jumping into this phone from old AT&T phones, your coverage area will shrink (nationally for sure, maybe locally). Do your research.

JUst wait for cingular to get it. Att has not merged with cingular yet. So there service is still very limited.

TheNip73: You are talking about TDMA and GSM mobile networks. The V600 is a quad band phone...it supports 850/1900Mhz in the U.S. and 900/1800Mhz overseas. Coverage is very solid with both bands. I have T-Mobile with just 1900 and in Dallas the coverage has been very good for me.

nitrotiger: at&t and cingular both offer 850/1900Mhz coverage so I'm not sure what you are trying to say. Look at the lineup of phones. Most to all of them GSM phones will be 850/1900Mhz compatible and some with 1800Mhz to travel overseas.

It was made very clear to me the phone would not work out of the twin cities in northern minnesota whereas the TDMA (digital) phones would. I do agree the cingular merger will greatly improve the network, but I still don't think it will be as comprehensive as Verizon. However, I think I live in an area where AT&T has not put much effort into expanding the network. Where others live it may be different.

I have been with AT&T wireless since they have been in existance. Their TDMA network is second to none. My phone ALWAYS seemed to work where no one elses did. Then about a year ago I switched to the GSM or 3G network simply because thats where the hitech phones are. The new network is no where near that of the old TDMA network. But they have stopped working on the TDMA and are only improving the GSM. This is the future for wireless for now. I am a tech junkie so it was definitely a tradeoff so I can get the hitech phones. I have the Panasonic GU87 which has been an alright phone. Called AT&T tonight and ordered my V600. I will have it on Friday. Got it for 199 shipped fedex with a 2 year extension. I had no problem doing this becuase things can only get better with the merger with Cingular.

ck47 - what provider? The z600 is only 1900 GSM. Are you on ATT? If so, how does the Z600 work?

My T-616 has worked well, but I'm interested in trying the v600 when it comes out with Cingular.

Since the Z600 is unlocked I can use it with AT&T and T-Mobile.
The phone does seem to have a difficult time using AT&T's network. it doesn't tranfer from site to site smoothly. Lots of drop calls. However on T-Mobile, it works much better. The V600 works on AT&T better in my opinion, not so much for the 850nhz, which hardly makes an impact where I am located, but the handoffs are much smoother.

All in all, It really depends where you live. The Z600 is a great phone, but I would recommend it for T-Mobile usage rather than AT&T.

Thanks - that's what I thought - up here in SF 850 is dominant (ATT) - and the T-Mo coverage outside of cities does not seem very good (at least where I travel) - looks like I'll be going to the V600. Have a T616 that works great now, but it is just too uncomfortable to use when outside the car.

It's $174.99 on the www.attwireless.com website right now; anyone who paid more may want to try for a refund...

Jim

Edit: Here's a link straight to the phone...
