V6 engines that have 90 degree bank angles are the most common ones that usually have balance shafts. V6 engines that have 90 bank angles, usually started life as a V8, as that's the bank angle of a naturally balanced V8. GM for example, had a 90 degree 3.8 litre V8. It started life as a buick V8, then GM chopped off two cylinders in 1962, and the first passenger V6 was born. GM discontinued production of the 90 degree 3800 V6 tho.... I believe Mercedes still has one tho. I remember a while back on Car and Driver TV they were talking about it. They had a V6 and a V8 that share platforms and production lines to cut costs. The only drawback, was the 90 degree V6 that resulted required balance shafts.
Another wierd bank angle you'll see floating around, is a 54 degree bank angle, which GM used on it's older 3.2 litre Opel DOHC V6. That thing had a wierd bank angle for packaging reasons...
