Using RainX on the headlights a good idea?
Using RainX on the headlights a good idea?
The bottle said that you can use it on windows, headlights, and foglights. I have never tried it on the headlight since it is not glass. Do you guys think that it can be harmful to nonglass material?
I assume it would be perfectly fine for non-glass material. On my dad's old 740IL, there were headlight washers equipped on the car and he would use the RAIN-X windshield washer fluid, which would come out and clean the headlight plastic lenses as well. There was never any harm done to the plastic. If you are going to use the RAIN-X windshield washer, just make sure you do not mix it with any other teflon based windshield washer fluid because it will cause the wipers to stutter (skip) along the windshield.
i have used it and not experienced haze. however, it really works for shit on your lenses. it doesn't bond to the plastic no where near as well as it does to glass. IMO, it lasts about one wash so it's not worth it.
headlight lens
I also don't think using rain-x on plastic headlight lenses is a good idea! I use eagle one plastic polish on mine and it works great,I also use it to clean my navi screen to clean off fingerprints and it gives the screen a nice finish.
I was just assuming it was working as well as it does on my windshield, since I am not looking through the light lenses its hard to tell. I have experienced no hazing, but I will stop using it now.

i find that waxing the windows, headlights, and tail lamps gives the exact same effect as rain-x. i used rain-x once and was very impressed with the results, especially at freeway speed. i find that a good carnuba wax coating gives the same result.

I use a product called "Invisible Glass", made by Stoner, on my headlights, taillights, and fogs (2nd Gen). It's basically a streak free "Windex on Steriods". I'm convinced it clears them up; better than wax can... (It's made for the inside & outside of the windows, and that does indeed work wonders. I highly recommend it. Another tip: clean your wiper blades with it too)
